Tuff season but blessed to see another come and go. Got home early mostly all season - didnt sit down to one mostly 🤣🤣

Thanks everyone. Killed him about 7:30 this morning on Lauderdale WMA. Not sure on weight. A hair tip past 11"on the beard, although the majority of them were at 10", do we round up? 😉 Spurs were 1 1/4" & 1 3/8"

I'm not much of a story teller but I'll give it a shot. I took my 5 yr old son hunting this past Saturday and went almost the whole day without hearing anything. We moved areas around 11:30 and heard 2 different gobbles but couldn't get close, as they sounded like they were on private and he was already pooped from walking. We left empty handed but with plans to return before season ended. Well sort of... we killed a decent sized rattlesnake on the way out. But I'm not riding in a jeep with a rattlesnake all the way home, even if he is dead, tastes better than chicken, and would make a nice hat band. Some of y'all are crazy.

I decided last night I was going to burn a vacation day and enjoy the end of the season and maybe do some fishing off the bank at panther creek. I woke up late (what a way to end the season i thought) and got to the spot where we heard them on Saturday just after daylight... which was helpful for the nerves while walking in. I walked a fire break to a creek bottom and decided I would sit for a while to see if I could hear any gobble. About 10-15 minutes into my

About 10-15 minutes into my sit I heard what I thought was a turkey flapping it's wings on the limb fairly close. Immediately after, 3 turkeys gobbled, all in different directions, one of them sounded pretty close but I was in a hole. Had to make a decision, either risk climbing the hill to better locate those birds and risk bumping one off the limb, or sit tight and hope for the best.

I'm not much on risky moves but I also didn't have much to lose so up the hill I went on hands and knees. From the creek bottom it didn't look all that far, but boy it seemed like mini everest once I made it up. Managed to get set up and called real soft, 3 notes in and he hammerd just over the hill out of sight. Then it happened, finally heard drumming. Talk about excitement, I was shaking like a leaf on a tree in a hurricane. He popped up in full strut almost right where I was aimed and slowly made his way closer. He made it to 33 steps and I squeezed the trigger, he hit the dirt and then immediately started flopping down mini everest. I finally caught up to him and celebrated.

Congrats. I’ve killed a LOT of turkeys and I’ve still never killed one with 1 3/8” spurs. That’s a very nice bird.

I couldn't stand it and had to resort to an afternoon hunt on the last day since the morning sucked so bad. I finally struck a bird at 6:06pm. Set up and yelped and he hammered probably 150yds. Over the next 5 min he gobbled 4-5x on his own in the same spot. At 6:21 I heard drumming for about 1-2minutes then silence. At 6:30 a hen appeared and walked to within 20 steps but no gobbler in tow. I had called a few times softly during this time with no response but around 6:40am I yelped a little louder and he gobbled about 200yds to my left which is the way the hen went. I can only assume he was just over a knoll in front of me about 50yds so I never saw him but the hen was on my side. Fun way to end the season though.
