Good luck folks. I won't be able to hunt early until Sunday. Will try to get out there Wed and Friday to strike a 9-10 lonely bird while kids are in school.

Got number 2 on public this morning, this one at Lauderdale. Didn’t hear a single bird on the limb walking in two miles. Sat down and called up a hen and then two jakes 15 minutes later. After the jakes wandered off a woodpecker called out and he gobbled on a ridge about 200 yards away and I cut the distance, called once and he came strutting down the hillside to me in the bottom. Tried to skirt me to the left and I let the ole 12 gauge eat. Dead at 40 yards!

My band of GJ’s (gobbling jakes) were fired up again today. 4 of em together in a cow pasture. They were just off property. Got on another bird who also got across the line. He was a stud. Saw him on the cow pasture after he crossed the county road. Saw his drag marks on the road along with some human footprints 🤔. About 830 I got on another bird that was actually on me and worked him but he evaporated into thin air. Still not sure where he went. Prob heard 5 diff birds including the GJs.

Least amount of gobbling this year. Had one gobble way off 3x. Made my way over there and he ended coming in quiet and I flat missed him. Can’t give my son a hard time for a while. 1st one I’ve missed in 3-4 years.

Struck one around 9:45, gobbled his fool head off once he got going. He cut the distance pretty quick, started 200+yds away on neighbor. Closest he got was probably 60-70yds just out eyesight. He gobbled once there and then went quiet. Cut at him on the mouth call 20 mins later and he cut me off but he was 100+yds away. Never would commit after that. Not sure what I did wrong. He gobbled til around noon after that then finally went quiet
