I realize camo is over rated when it comes to deer hunting for the most part. I've never really cared what camo I was wearing while deer hunting. But I realize Turkeys have better vision than deer. how much does camo patterns matter when turkey hunting. Do ya'll believe any pattern is better than the other or as long as you are wearing camo are you good?

The best camo is be still. People killed turkeys long before camo existed. With that said, I don’t worry much on one pattern over another but I’ll try to wear something a little more brown early season and something with a little more green late season.

Where is this early season brown you speak of? It’s summer time green on opening day around here these days.

Modern turkeys are smarter and more savvy. All patterns are good but the only camo good enough to kill a turkey on Public Land especially is Mossy Oak. That's what ALL the guys on YouTube wear.

I hunted with black wranglers for years. Probably not the best for public though. Plus, those cowboy cut models must be different now cause they dont seem to fit right. 😀

Nope. When I hunt turkeys I look like I am entering into a wacky tacky camo contest. Multiple brands of camo. Mostly because I buy cheap or 2nd hand. Dont wear it deer hunting either. I wear green carhart pants and a flanel shirt with a jacket. Camo patterns are like anything else that is marketed. It's the latest and greatest to whoever will believe in the hype and buy it.

I don’t think I’ve ever considered the pattern before heading into the woods and doubt I’ve ever matched.

a fun channel to watch on YouTube is Brent0331 - he’s got a playlist on camouflage effectiveness of all the military issued stuff ... it’s fun to watch & try to figure out where he’s hiding in the brush (in Texas) ...

all that to say, yes, camouflage is a tool to better hide yourself & there are dozens of effective patterns ... i’ve always used military BDU bottoms & a leafy jacket up top & it’s worked well for me ... i like the old woodland pattern & the new digital MARPAT stuff personally

It really doesn’t matter. Most of the time, once a turkey gets in gun range it’s a matter of time before he sees you. This is especially true in the early season before it greens up. For me, it’s more important to have something in front of me to break up my outline.

Heck yeah it matters. Matching Mossy Oak Bottomland is the most effective of course.

"Why do you ask"?

I’ve killed them in blue jeans and khaki britches. Hiding yourself does wonders.

I always hav camo on hand and face - i like green - like 247 says - it practically summer when season starts here - being still key and hav stuff to break up behind you other than tree you own - i like to make em hunt me and never sit wide open woods if can help - they will expect to see a hen standing right where you sit and you will wonder why he hung up at 80 yards - i just told you why

I tend to lean towards darker patterns because they don’t stand out as much. Started wearing solid pants last year and it never seemed to bother them. I do think it matters to an extent but it goes hand in hand with being still. Hunted with a buddy last year and when I looked back he was sticking out like a sore thumb because his new bottomland almost looked white. It made me double check myself for sure.

I wear Bottomland. I don't own anything green like Obsession..... I'm normally done before things green up. grin
