I acquired a 84m Kimber a couple of years back. The previous owner was using Winchester Deer Season XP 125 gr and I got 3 boxes with the rifle. They grouped well enough but I really wanted a heavier for caliber option and found Ferderal Premium loaded with 140 Accubonds. I have had very good performance out of the ABs so I bought a few boxes. The rifle likes the Federals a little better than the lighter loads. My issue is when I rack a new cartridge it takes a considerably more effort to lock the bolt with the Federals. My initial concern was OAL but I can find no indications that the cartridge is being forced into the chamber. I have taken a couple and worked tge bolt up and down several time repeatedly and the wear spots seem to be on the bottom of the rim. Has anyone else noticed an similar issue before?

Carbon ring. Try cleaning your throat and chamber with JBs bore paste if that doesn't help you might have out of spec ammo color a case with a sharpie and open and close the bolt a few times that should tell you where the tight spot is but I'd JBs the shat out of that chamber too.

This... Also, I'm guessing by bullet weights it's maybe a 6.5 CM?? The 140 is going to be longer to the ogive than the 125. If there is a carbon ring it could be contacting the bullet

Good idea or starting point. Also try a different box /brand of ammo.ive run into factory ammo that didn't want to fit in chamber of certain rifles. It's no guarantee they all work together.also I wouldn't force bolt closed alot can wear down back of bolt lugs.takes awhile but definitely wouldn't force closed .can speed up ruining accuracy galling lugs If one brand fits and another don't chunk the bad brand and try something else.go from there

Yes it’s a 6.5. As mentioned the 125 gr Winchester Deer Season XP rounds do not show the symptoms that the Federal 140 ABs do but there are no obvious signs of rubbing except the bottom of the case rim.

I would clean it to be on the safe side but I'm not sure you even have an issue. "Harder" to chamber is a relative term. That can mean it's hand tight OR that can mean you've got to beat the bolt closed with a hammer. Not sure which one it is but if it is just "tight" then you are good. All ammo manufactured today is unfortunately not getting the QC it once did.
However, if you are having to use a good bit of force to chamber this Federal Ammo I might go grab a box of Hornady and see what that feels like just for reference.
Could just be the extractor. We can't just automatically jump to a headspace issue and declare you have a major problem... but that's how fast we roll on Aldeer.

I’ve had the same issue with a 6.5. And it is a head space problem. When resizing the brass I have to set the dies as far down on the press as it will go then a little more. Thought it was a problem with dies.

I had a friend in Colorado that had the exact issue with the Kimber 84. He said the bolt was smooth as butter but that it took almost 2 hands the lock the bolt. He took the gun back to the dealer and they sent it back to the factory. The factory kept the gun for 4 months (over the hunting season) and returned it back and said that there were no issues with the gun. He eventually traded the gun for a Tikka 3X and is very happy.

Cleaned it , didn’t change anything.Marked one of the Federals with a sharpie and there is no indication it’s touching the lands. The Winchester’s that work fine are actually a little longer than the Federals. One thing I noticed is the brass is chrome plated on the Federals and bare on the Winchesters but I wouldn’t think that that’s enough to cause a problem. Especially since the chrome is being rubbed off.
