I don't want to buy a new truck at the $ today. I would be happy driving my current truck for another 3 years. 2015 225,000 miles (mostly highway) The transmission has been making a whining noise for some time, but has gotten louder over the past month or so. Transmission pump is wearing out.
I know that no one on here knows, but how long does it have. Are we looking at breaking down over the next few weeks, or do I maybe have another year?
I won't get much for the truck as a trade considering the miles ($3,000ish). Every month that I keep the truck is ~$700 in my pocket vs a new truck.

I’ve got a 2013 F150, it has 190k miles, motor or trans have never been into but out of curiosity I called a trans shop about what an overhaul would cost. I was given a ballpark of $2500. Why not just repair it and go another 200k. That repair would pay for itself in 3 1/2 months. Trucks are outrageously overpriced these days.

had the same whining in an 06’ f150 about 6mos ago. also thought it was a pump but ended up being a pulley.

If it is whining or roaring when under a load or accelerating, it could be the ring and pinion gear. I first thought it was my transmission making the noise, but we got it up and it was the ring and pinion. Lot cheaper fix than tearing into and rebuilding a tranny. Parts on a R&P run about $500-700. Figure $400-$500 for labor if you dont do it yourself.

This is just me. Rather than wait for it to break, I'd take it and have it diagnosed, repair it on my schedule. Rent a truck for a few days until repairs are complete. I've done that in the past with good success, less stress and less inconvenience.
If you like the truck, keep it.

If you like the truck, keep it. I am not a car guy. I don't care about the truck as long as it is 100% operational, but she hasn't given me a bit of problem. However, I 100% don't like having a car payment.

Are you sure its the transmission? Just put a rear end in mine making a whinning noise for about a year. Either way you can put a used one in from a salvage yard. Save a couple grand.

Yeah, needed an oil change and took it to local shop. They sent me a video w/ sound of the transmission making noise. Quoted me ~$7500 to replace it.

I've got a Toyota. What's a transmission problem?

I've got a Toyota. What's a transmission problem? I’ve driven Tundras for going on 23 years. First one I had the transmission went out at 95K..just saying it happens.

We just paid $4500 yesterday when we went to pick-up Mrs. Irish's Jeep Rubicon. I was going to be about the same price if we had put in a Jasper transmission.

The guys name is Brian Prince, he is a great and honest guy. (A rarity in this day and time) Doesnt Jasper offer a pretty decent warranty?
