To me it makes that much of a difference and thats how i want mine handled

I've heard great things about Weaver's. Over an hour away, but I'm still considering taking some there.

One I'm keeping for myself will either be gutted in the woods or as soon as I get it back to the cabin , hoisted up and hosed out with cool, spring water.

I don't gut them at all. Get them to the skinning rack as soon as possible and skin them. Then cut out the front shoulders, back straps, and tenderloins. Separate the hind quarters and dump the carcass for the scavengers. We've had a bald eagle around to get his share.

Sounds like the real problem here is that possibly a deer just ain't that good. I know some folks love them and need to kill 25-30 to keep the neighborhood fed. Same thing... a cow that comes right out of a pasture ain't that good either.

They taste better if you feed them corn.

Me too. I will gut one in the field if I need to reduce the weight to load by myself.

I never gut a deer. I lay em on the tailgate and remove all edible meat w/o gutting or skinning. Feed carcas to the buzzards.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I Deer hunt mostly on my land near the Cabin. Having the time.....I only go in January.....during COLD Spells. Neck shoot Deer.....go get tractor.....hang Deer with tractor bucket.....Gut.....wash cavity with well water. At most it is about 45 minutes from kill to being washed out.Go inside and make a Maker's Mark Whiskey Drink if it's a late afternoon hunt. Leave it hanging until things warm back up.....then skin and cut up. Make my own Sausage,Hamburger, Cube Steak. I remember seeing Ole-Time Rabbit hunters "Slinging" the guts out of a Rabbit the minute they kill them and never getting a any blood on there hands.....amazing how they could do that!!

If you see me gut a deer, it's because he is to damn big to drag. I usually get mine cut up on the tailgate within an hour or so. With temperature being cool, I really don't see how an hour or two will hurt the meat at all. Damn all that gutting........

Hell bowhunting I may wait an hour before even tracking him. It could be 3-4 hours minimum on a not such a great shot. Never noticed a difference in the meat. ..

Deer temps about 100 degrees. Your meat has a layer of leather and hair retaining that heat unless you guttem its going to be slow to cool. How many hours yall comfortable leaving meat from the store in your truck bed on a hot summer day? 2 hours? 4? overnight?

I think there is a difference in gutting a fresh killed animal and chicken left on a 102 degree tailgate. Trust me I'm an ice fanatic. I want the meat cold pretty quick. But if that doesn't happen in an hour I'm not going to worry about my hamburger....

I wasn't meaning you in particular and I don't mean one hour is the difference maker. I just think there's too many people that are a little too comfortable letting a deer go undressed for hours after they've recovered it when it takes no time at all to handle one way or another.

Don't forget your wallet and your checkbook... they are good but you definitely pay for it. Take your meat to them in a cooler quartered up you will be better off
