Just curious ... that little pocket west of Cullman County is pretty much where Smith Lake is located now, isn't it? Or the upper end of Smith?

Clem, we all know they are only using high quality feed. I'm talking about straight up corn!! I just want to attract and kill them, not fatten them up and put big horns on their head. Work with me!!!

Thanks. I figured it was either the lake or north, but wasn't sure.

Probably wiped out a lot of game during the great depression. People were hungry and in those days, people were more important than animals.
In another great depression, I imagine a lot of game would be wiped out again no matter what the season dates are. Case in point in my memory is the Pascagoula swamp in south Mississippi. When I was a preteen, growing up on the edge of the swamp, it was full of alligators, hogs and turkeys. Many locals had "claims"(marked hogs) in the swamp and from them many unmarked hogs were produced. When temporary hunting camps where set up the food stuffs was hanged in trees to keep the hogs from getting them. If you went near the swamp in the spring to fish or what ever turkeys would be gobbling every where. When WW11 ended the ship yard shut down and the service men came home, there were no jobs to be had. The swamp was littered with hog traps and almost overnight the hogs, turkeys and alligators were wiped out and it took them several decades to recover.

I don't think deer and turkey hunting would be compatible on the same land at the same time. I was always scared to quail and rabbit hunt anywhere near public land during deer season.
