I love how the record profits need to be passed onto the workers, what about the share holders?

I just can't see paying $80K for a disposable truck. Or better yet, one that strands you because it runs the battery down trying to do a software upgrade. That's the new Canyon/Colorado.

And it should be. You dont demand any kind of raise when you say "oh yeah, and I'm going to work less hours too". Frak them and the horse they rode in on. Perfect opportunity for the big 3 to bust the union once and for all. Bring in scabs and put all the protestors out of a job permanently. Everything has already been pretty much automated, with very few skilled craftsman required or left in any of the trades anymore, so replacement should be nothing more than a body swap, with very little production or productivity loss. Now's the time, they want change, so give it to them.

Won’t work. Let’s use nursing. Most nurses in hospitals work 36 hour work weeks, some are paid for 40 hrs. Union states have brought in scab nurse’s during contract disputes paying them big coins only to fire them once the contracts are settled, signed and ratified. Same would happen in the automotive industry. Oh by the way I loved working 48-60 hrs a week because anything over the 36 was my investment and play money but now most hospitals are screwing you out of 12 of your 36 hrs by over hiring because they can not keep consistent workers due to headaches they caused during Covid.

Probably for an automatic 8 hours of overtime per week. I’d be surprised to see a blue collar job even working a 40 hour week nowadays.

That $80k just turned in to $100k I’ll never own a new one.

Sure they can, they are private businesses. They can make the decision that they are no longer going to deal with the union bosses and union workers. There's no current contract in place. They should have done this long ago and the hospitals should have done the same thing to the nurses during the dispute. You simply have to be willing to deal with the short term fallout and the political pressure being brought to bear. From the automakers perspective, the timing could not be more perfect. Coming off record profits, sitting on piles of cash, people are feeling the pressure of inflation and I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of people in those cities that are working multiple menial jobs to try to make ends meet, and would love to be able to upgrade and get one of those "union type" jobs with great benefits and good wages, all without having to join a union. There's also a big difference between RNs and LPNs and the average union worker with regard to the skill, experience and intelligence necessary to perform their jobs. Most union jobs in the auto industry are now are simply part loaders and material handling. Automation, robots, and specialized fixtures and tooling do all the real work. Aside from the programmers, techs, and robotics specialists, you'd be shocked at how little skilled labor actually exists in a modern automotive plant.

.

That pretty much describes what they did at Pearl Harbor but it backfired on them when we dropped the bomb.

I can tell by these comments that some folks haven't installed 300 car engines in a day to make less money than a forieghn automaker. both sides are woke but 30% over 4 years is not unreasonable considering inflation and the the increase in cost on a new truck. and yea I also hear of uaw workers being forced to work 7 days a week.

I would take a 10 hour day 4 day work week I think as long as my off days were fri sat sun. But why would you want to cut your hours?? Makes no sense unless you’re salaried! Just lazy turds can’t blame them for shipping jobs to Mexico. They just want the same pay with an extra day off. I say give them their 32 hour work week and create new shifts to cover it and overtime still based on 40 hours. Don’t have to worry any many of those slackers overtime. This was not the intention of unions.

I am currently in contract negotiations with the USW and can tell you that they feel very empowered by what has been happening on the labor front here lately. They are taking the same path as the UAW.

They don't play. There is a Japanese owned car lock plant in Selma and it was well known to all that if you work there and quit, no matter how good of a worker you were, there is no going back. That was a very staunch policy they had and never veered from it.

Bingo, it's that simple! Leave if it's so bad. I start a new job on Monday.

So, the NON union workers in foreign auto plants make more than union workers in domestic plants.

So, if they get the 32 hour work week they want, does that mean they start receiving overtime pay after 32 hours? If so, maybe they really don’t want less hours and just want to start making time and a half a lot quicker.

32 hour work week? What in the world would I do if I only had to work 2 days a week…

if management doesn’t like the contract they can close it down. Nobody’s forcing them. Personally if I don’t like something at my job I try to get it changed instead of running from job to job like a scared chicken quitting every job.I start.

Love reading this stuff. Prices are gonna go up because the hourly guys get a raise. What a joke. These auto manufacturers are making record profits and the hourly guys make an average of 65k a year. While execs are getting 20 million dollar bonuses. What’s really causing the price increase? Most of you hate unions so bad you refuse to see the real reason cars are so expensive. These execs are making stupid money and people keep buying vehicles at these stupid prices. Which gives record profits for several years in a row. But I guess only execs and stockholders should get a piece of that pie. Screw the hourly guys right? Some of you guys are pathetic

Nah the hourly guys should get what they agreed to work for. The salary guys get what they agreed to work for and the ones that take the biggest risk in it get the biggest reward.

The ones who lose in these union led garbage stunts are the consumer who now have to pay 10% more for a vehicle. Guess who those folks are, the hourly workers who wanted more per hour just to pay more when they have to buy something

Have you ever heard of math? Ford has 57,000 UAW employees making an average of 65k. A 40% pay increase like they're asking would be an additional 26,000 per employee. $26,000 x 57,000 = $1.482 BILLION. In contrast, Ford's CEO just under $21 million in 2022 (down almost 2 million from 2021). Ford's total compensation for execs was 71 million last year. Which is only 4% of the RAISE the hourly employees are asking for. Not to mention the execs are bringing way more value to the company and are the reason why all their 186,000 employees have jobs.
