I was selected for the 11/14 primitive weapons hunt. Does anyone have any insight about this place and what I can expect? I will be bow hunting. Any tips are appreciated!

Look for tracks along road and go find a spot you can see a ways. You ain’t got to go far off in the woods to see deer. I killed a decent 7 point back in February. The rut was on so it might not be as much movement but I seen 3x as many bucks than I did does in the 4 days we was there.

Thanks. How does the draw for each unit work and are there stands available or do I just bring my climber? Also are there plenty of deer there or is it a tough place to hunt?

RandS, no there are no stands there. You will need your climber and there are plenty of deer. If the area gets much rain between now and then you might need a 4 wheeler. You will have a weekend in early October to go scout the area you will be assigned to hunt.

Do you know if they allow you to set up a camera on the scouting days?

I was allowed to set up cameras last year, but choose not to, just hunted the hardwood bottoms and pinch points, saw deer every day but didn't finish the deal....make sure you don't have any trace of feed, attractant, corn or anything else that may be used in your vehicle....they were pretty strict and up front about using any bait. If they find it in your vehicle, you will be asked to leave and put on a list to never return or get drawn again.....I had a 2lb bag of attractant that had been in my tool box for over two years and forgot it was there until they mentioned it.....I just gave it to them and everything was good.......

We were first hunter’s at Euchee and they let us use cameras.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Do not put any bait in front of your camera or you will lose it and the privilege to hunt any SOA hunts if they figure out who you are.

Just found out I am unit 1 and 2 for this hunt. Anyone know anything about these? Also is there good enough service for cell cameras or would you suggest a standard trail camera?

Omega, did you see much hog sign there? Just trying to get an idea if any acorns will still be on the ground then, where I hunt the hogs eat them as soon as they hit the ground.

Actually, it was three years ago, and we basically only hunted unit 4. Things may have changed a lot in that time. There was not much hog sign and there was a heavy buck rub line on the west side of 4.

Any one else get a chance to scout out there this weekend? Found some good pinch points and transition areas, but the acorn crop looked sparse and seemed like only post oaks, water oaks and a few reds were dropping. Was a little discouraged not jumping or seeing any deer after walking miles through the woods Saturday morning.

I did not get a chance to scout but will be out there this weekend. We will see how it goes. The front moving through on Friday might get things moving. Is there any rule to how early you can get out there on the first day of the hunt?
