I have been using Deer M for over five years. Great product. 50 lbs per ac. has worked every year. Just make sure PH is correct. I do add some additional cover in a few fields, mainly for the good turkey fields. I also plant a product called Buck Busters, It is even better and is also 50 lbs ac.

I planted buck Buster one year and it was great. I’ve planted the wms blends and they’ve been good. But I usually plant 100# to the acre or a little less but I don’t have but just over an acre at the house.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I have used Deer Magnet and Buck Buster, seems the BB needs more nitrogen. Both did great though.
Love a good hunting story, love my family and friends. Some people you can't, but acted like do.

My co-op is carrying the Buck Buster seed. For those of you that planted BB did you use the fall mix or the premium mix?

I’ll add…the year we planted the magnet on a field was about 300 yards from a field over the line my cousin planted with some “high dollar seed mix” likely a 7 way or so from the coop. Our field looked like my front lawn they hammered it so much…his was about knee high. The next year we did just regular oats wheat and rye and ours wasn’t fooled with too much while his was mowed down…I’m a big believer after seeing that

In my opinion, the difference is the soil mineral availability will make a bigger difference in deer usage over the blend selected, provided both are diverse blends of cereal grains, clovers etc.

In my opinion, the difference is the soil mineral availability will make a bigger difference in deer usage over the blend selected, provided both are diverse blends of cereal grains, clovers etc. Yep.....I haven’t done a side by side to prove it but it would also be interesting to see if deer prefer plots that are grown with nutrients from recycled soil organic matter versus one grown with synthetic fertilizers……

Conventional tillage with synthetic inputs vs Regenerative plots without inputs. There's more to it than that but it's the general idea.

I don't know which way that study will go but id bet a lot they will prefer the one without synthetic fert.

I really like it , but it's hard to get up here. I planted at #50 to acre and added bout 25 lbs Black Oats . Makes for a fine plot. I'm a BIG fan of Oats. The WMS deer magnet has the black oats and triticale as the back bone of the mix. It looks like you added 25# more black oats to your mix. I am a big fan of oats as well but mostly use the buck forage oats. If you are using BFO for the cold tolerance only, I used a lot of Cosaque Black Oats last year . I didn't lose any, even with about 5 days in single digits . I did fertilize my plots early December with 150 lbs 33-0-0 per acre. After the super cold snap , my plots looked like it hadn't even been below freezing. " Side dressing" plots with straight N is a game changer .

I've always planted just the Alabama Blend at 100 lbs to the acre and has done very well. This year I'm going to mix the Bama blend and deer magnet. I want a little more clover to carry over in to the spring but also want the other grains and brassica to carry through the fall as a nurse crop until the clover establishes next spring.

Basically emulating farmers and their wheat crop but we’d hit in December to get new growth during the rut.
