What’s the incentive now to save 20% for a down payment to avoid PMI, when you’re now going to be paying someone else’s PMI regardless?

Only pay the minimum down and pay any additional fund toward the principal a couple of months later. Check the math on buying down the interest rates. There may be work arounds to limit your exposure.

You realize this is only for FHA loans. If your credit score is above 680, use a bank or credit union to finance your mortgage.

The second paragraph in the article: The fee changes will go into effect May 1 as part of the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s push for affordable housing, and they will affect mortgages originating at private banks across the country.I didn’t see a mention of this only effecting FHA loans? I’m asking out of curiosity in case you know more about the situation
