Guys We have pour first tourney at wheeler lake on march 6. I was wandering if anyone new any pointers to give me about the lake. I've never fished there and dont know much about the lake at all. i fish mainly lake jordan,mitchell,martin, and the al river. Is wheeler like any of these lakes? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your home lakes have a healthy spotted bass population, wheeler is all about the LM. I would wouldn't be far from spawning water, maybe secondary points or rocky banks in the creeks. Hope you do well!

Your event will be going out of Ingalls Harbor, on the south side of the river at the Flats.

Run the channel along the railroad tracks, don't hit the stump in the corner where you make the turn and get on the backside of the flats where Swan dumps into Beulah Bay.

Traps, jigs, spinnerbaits ... work the bushes if they're flooded.

If you want to avoid that and junk fish, run up to the other ramp and fish inside the basin around the docks and boats. If there's current running, don't overlook the riprap 'corner' at under the highway bridge with a jig or spinnerbait.

During a Bassmaster tourney there last year, even though it was later in the year, I watched two guys work over the boat basin and pick up some decent fish. Got photos of one guy losing a 3-4 pounder after he pitched over an empty slip to the riprap, set the hook and the fish jumped before spitting the jig. He wasn't very happy.
