I've got the hots for one of Bass Pro's 12 foot aluminum boats.
Anybody know if that would require a short shaft motor or long shaft motor.
It's just the small, riveted model. I think they call it a car topper.
Rated for a 7.5 HP

Get you a Briggs 5HP motor for it.

I was looking at those. Do you have one, or have used one?
I know it's hard to beat a Briggs.
Cabelas has a Suzuki 2.5 for 699.
That may be a little small

MJ, I don't have one, but was looking at getting one last year. They have gotten really good reviews and a 3 gallon tank will last you up to 6 hours. You want have near the trouble from an air cooled engine as well.

I was thinking about the air cooled being good. I would be using it in shallow, sandy water, not real good for water pump.
I checked some videos on youtube and they seem to run out pretty good. Heck of alot better price than a Merc. I mainly want something to put on a flatbottom boat to putt around with my girls and maybe a river float trip from time to time

If you plan to have it for a while, take a look at the new Yamaha 4-stroke portable outboards. Very quiet ... I think the smallest is 9.9. You'd be zooming!

I ended up getting a 2.5 Merc 4 stroke. Bass Pro put them on sale for 700 bucks.
Probably should have gone for the 5, but they want 1500 bucks for that one.
Picked up a trailer at Academy for another 600, so I'm in business now.
Just need the ice to thaw so I can try it out

I had no idea they even made a 2.5hp motor. Could you have gone electric cheaper?
