My hoa didn't collect over $2000 in dues from my neighbor and they sold their house and moved and now the HOA is trying to get it from the next purchaser. Might be why it's still for sale. But then they have been crooked as hell, even the one who worked for Leeds PD.
I got a bill from a voluntary HOA that formed 1 year after I bought my house. Got bill year 2, told them I didn't join the HOA. I am now 7 years delinquent. 🤣. No teeth HOA so I'm not worried. Since 4 years ago when I receive an invoice I then create an invoice from my dummy company: $150 for services not rendered. HoA president called me to ask about it. I said if you can do it so can I.

If in an HOA; you usually can't get a clear title and close without a letter of proof of paid up dues. That was my experience.

Very few people can own enough land to put between them and their neighbors in suburbs where most of the HOA's are. Depends where one wants to live. Each to their own.
I was firmly against HOA’s until a neighbor moved in with dogs that won’t STFU. Even on my 10acres, it’s all I hear when I’m outside.
