Anyone eat those? I cant get the real hog lard anymore, No one around here Kills hogs anymore, I have the store-bought lard and sometimes my wife (if Im being real sweet) makes some. I put real cow butter on them till it melts and then cover them in homemade sorghum syrup. I have to use the store-bought butter as well. I once had a swiss-jersey cow and could churn my own but them days are long gone. Any way they are pretty good

We render our fat down. Use it in biscuits, fry with it and you get cracklins out of it. I have one that I'll process in January. Gonna go old school and scald and scrape the hair off. I'll salt cure the hams. A dairy cow on in the works..

You the man.!!!! So glad to see the old school way. Those cracklins are sure good cooked in buttermilk cornbread. Its been so long since I have had any cracklin bread. I hope you really enjoy the fruits of your labor. The day may be coming that you will have plenty to eat and others dont

Shut yo mouth! Hog lard, real butter & sorghum. The stuff dreams are made of. I could crumble up 2 dozen of those real biscuits in a gallon of sorghum & eat it all. No, I don't need it but I'd
sure love to have it!

Good memories. We used butcher two hogs every year. I would get attached to them an cry when we kill them. scalded hair off an scraped rest . Butcher up an salt down in big ol wooden barrell. Cook off grease an cracklins. Use grease rest of year to cook with. Wonder we not all dead from all that high cholesterol grease. Haven t done it since dad passed away in 80. Brother tried salt one down few years back but didn t do something right . Meat ruined . I think wasn t cold enough the day he done it . We used do it in feb on the coldest day.
