I do believe I have floated them all, around here.
You can float the flint, paint rock, parts of beaver dam, elk, duck, cahaba, the sipsey in bankhead, the refuge, limestone creek, swan creek, and a few others. Just depends on what you are looking for.
An easy trip is around Ditto. Decent fishing, and a good "beginner" area. Wheeler wildlife refuge is also nice, and you have the possible bonus of a gator sighting. I spend an enormous amount of time in my canoes/kayaks. If you want more specific info just say so.
I am trying to get a few folks together to float the majority of the flint. 34 miles I believe. Just in case any of you are interested.

I'd love to do the Flint.
If you go on the Refuge, especially at Blackwell Swamp, watch out for hornet nests in the buttonball bushes. We did a piece on the swamp about 10 years ago and found some whopper nests to avoid.

Looks like we may have an aldeer canoe trip in the works.
I am pretty certain, if we keep up a comfortable pace, mix in some fishing, and refreshments, we can make it in 2.5 days. Actually it can be done in two days if all we do is paddle.
I am open for any input.

From my experience canoeing and fishing creeks, you can cover about 6 miles in about 8 hours. This includes fishing, stopping for bathroom breaks or stretching your legs and 15 minute sack lunch break. This is on a mix of flat water and steady current. I have found that the fishing is best right before and right after shoals. So a lot of times we paddle through some of the flat water. A 34 mile canoe trip is a very long canoe trip.

I agree 34 miles is pretty long. I canoe/kayak around 30 times a year and average about 1mph when fishing. On a trip like this we may have to fish the "cherry" spots.
