Any of you North Alabama guys been down this creek? Looking to take the wife down it in a canoe. It appears to be 7-8 miles from the canoe launch off 133 down to the take out off Hwy 20 making it an all day trip. We will be fishing so any insight would be great. I'd love to get into some smallmouth with topwater.

That was one of the places we grew up fishing. You're welcome to find my phone box if I can find it.

I am kidding, of course. But I have an uncle that used to wear it out with M-80's.

Bring a saw and know what poison ivy/oak looks like. Used to do it all the time many years ago - it's a good time.

When I was in college at UNA, we had an annual float trip on Cypress called the Cypress Creek Raft Race. Water would always be cold in early May and we had a blast every year. We never fished the creek, but there are some great spots on the creek to fish. If you cant catch them, its your fault. The creek is mostly shady and it is a trip well worth taking and enjoying. I miss those good times from my youth! I forgot to mention the young ladies that always went with us, we had a great time.

The Great Cypress Creek Raft Race, it was a great time to be young.

Not sure about the fishing but I’d go ultra light and finesse. Should be fun

I don't float it, but drive by the launch area often. I can tell you it has been packed during the weekends, people having to park outside the parking lot packed.

Plan on going EARLY. We are used to it. Amazing how much the recreational floaters impact the fishing.
