I dont use decoys or fans really much at all.Heck I dont even use a vest most times. A few mouth calls in my pocket and MAYBE a slate and a striker and scrubby pad in my cargo pants but I am not for making anything illegal because I dont like it.

I dont like TSS. Period. Dont use it. I have some and a choke tube. Never put it in my gun.

But I hear folks on here talking about shooting gobblers at 70 yards. and Yall think a decoy or fan should be illegal? Selective thinking I guess.

If I cant shoot them at 35 dam yards or less I dont shoot. I Guess they should outlaw TSS. since I DONT USE It. If you cant call em close enough to smell their breath then go the heck home.

Get offended all u want big guy. A lot of these guys, including myself, were killing turkeys way before TSS or decoys and don’t need either one. If somebody is gonna try one at 70 knowing he’s at 70, he’ll do it with number 4 lead or TSS 9’s. They’re one in the same. One just has way more pellets than the other. But you’re trying to act like we just want decoys done away with out of jealousy or something. It has nothing to do with jealousy. It has to do with not hearing or seeing turkeys, gobblers especially……Hunter satisfaction (or lack of) along with the state reducing limits is going to reduce the amount of money and time put in by private landowners (the guys that own property that actually give a crap about turkeys/wildlife) and cause even further reductions in numbers. If you think that decoys and fanning aren’t causing a part of the reduction in gobbling and turkeys, you’re, well….just blind I guess. Decoys along with YouTube bookface, tweeter, and all other social media has caused a huge rise in hunter numbers. A lot of the people that are newer to the sport use decoys and fans so they too can put their pretty little pic up with a turkey or 4. That affects us all. Which causes these type discussions. Call us what you want, but I call us people who are concerned for the sport and wanting our kids and generations after to be able to enjoy what was once an awesome experience.

Ok. Ill call you a hypocrite. You shoot 70 yards but condemn decoys. I dont use EITHER but if the shoe fits buddy put her on Cinderella.

There have been a ton of advances in turkey hunting since I started for sure. I dont condemn ANY of them. What people want to use and do they can. Last time I checked this was Freaking America.

I dont give a flying rats arse about what you use or how you hunt as long as it is IN SEASON AND LEGAL. I certainly dont want things made illegal just because I DONT USE them.

I must have missed the memo that said if you shoot tss, you shoot turkeys at 70 yards. My personal goal to get the turkey 40 yards or closer never changed when I switched to tss. It never changed when I switched from lead to hevi shot years ago either. If they banned tss, I'd have no problem going back to hevi or lead.

Not really sure how I can be any more clear Phil. The very first sentence in my post said I’m not judging anybody for it because I’ve done it but after the first half dozen or so I figured out it wasn’t fair. I even remember the turkey you’re talking about…… walked up on top of a hill in a rolling pasture, see a gobbler about 400 yards off, hold a fan up and here he came running wide open. That really made me a badass turkey hunter didn’t it? Nope. Just made me complicit to murder because I’d say the odds of us killing a turkey that had already most likely seen us without a fan would have been almost zero.

Now think about how many people are hunting in Alabama and how many turkeys die exactly that way every year and tell me
again it has no effect on the population

Very few get killed that way in the SW part of the state. No fields. Minimal affect around here to be honest.

Dang good article. Get rid of fans and decoys, ban feeding again year round, ban the posting of dead turkey pics on the internet and social media and we would have more turkeys than a man would know what to do with. All of that will never happen of course, but true nonetheless.

You would be surprised before green up it’s not that difficult to get in eye sight of a gobbler be it in a south Ala bottom or a north Ala mtn side.

Before greenup? It’s green here when season starts. Baiting is more the issue - takes the place of it - same result. I could fill up a warehouse with scratch feed I find in the woods every Spring.

I wanna do away with baiting too. Baiting for deer has increased the coon population ten fold. All they have to do now is sit around and eat free corn and keep making baby coons

Isn't fanning illegal in Alabama now? Didn't they enact a law that you can't manipulate or move a decoy or something to that effect? Or have I been on the crack pipe this morning?
