Any bass reports out there? i was told they have been spraying the grass down there and killing it off.. Any info??

I heard some folks have been catching some then the water shot back up, haven't heard nothing since. But i haven't been up to camp (The Bend) since March 6th. Hopefully the river stays right since all the high water screwed us again (like last year)

I don't have any info, but planning to go later in the week and will post what I find. Fishing around grass was the only place we could catch any on the 2 trips we went last year. I can't imagine what good reason they could have for spraying it. The shallow sloughs that have the grass are worthless for any other sort of recreation. Makes no sense to kill it and ruin the fishing; they will just become shallow mudholes.

Godzila (what i call it lol) weeds would go away though. One year we dang near couldn't out of our slough when it floated in lol. Ruined the bream fishing in several sloughs for a few years

I don't have a report on fishing or spraying ,,, but sure wished I did ,,,, but when it comes to spraying the grass the state becomes my enemy. Sure, wood , rock cover and structure hold plenty of bass and crappie,, but the numbers of bass I've caught over the years there mostly came from grass and other aquatic vegetation ...

Yeah, hyacinth has choked out many a cove, slough, creek and small lakes there and spraying being the only way to kill off most of the hyacinth,,, Alligator slough ,,,famous for locking out fishermen with the floating bulbs... if you find any grass the bass will be all over it.

i remember several years back hyacinth was terrible down there but the fish like it!

Yeah i like me some Alligator slough, watched a many of folks tear up a prop in there the last few years lol. Still pissed about big bertha someone killed her several years back, she used to nest to the left when ya pulled in. She'd a made a good gator for someone during the gator season. Hated to see her wasted like that.

Yeah i remember that year. Gees bend land slough was nearly impossible to get in, and ours (Hog Pen) wasn't no easier

was there last weekend water was dirty in river but creeks were decent, caught enuff for the grease, Lidell slough and a creek south of aligator i had not been in before. some of the bass had not spawned out yet

I said I would report back, but this isn't much of a report. My uncle bought a boat 5 weeks ago and then fell off a ladder and broke his arm before ever getting to take it fishing. I went down there and we went yesterday, mainly just to try the boat. We put in at Bridgeport at 9 am and fished until 3, and caught only 2 fish. We only went a few miles up the river, and all the water we found was either muddy or stained. The only place we caught anything at all was one little stretch of water that wasn't stained as much as the rest. I had a couple of 3 to 4 pound fish on and managed to lose both of them.

I wouldn't let our results worry me; it wasn't a very serious trip and we fished the worst time of the day. If I were gonna fish again tomorrow, I would get further back into some of the bigger creeks and look for clearer water.

The bass tournaments during all this muddy, high water have seen 5 fish right at 20 lbs winning it. The folks that know what they are doing are tearing them up. The rest of us are burning gas.

Lol. We caught some good fish in the sloughs last year during high water just farting around 😃

caught fish almost all day on swim jigs and buzzbaits. Missed alot of fish but it is what it is.

had 4 fish for 5.60
took 9 plus to win.lol
