Anyone have any feedback on the Yates WMA? I hunt down that way and wanted to check it out? Any crazy public land stories? Decent ground?

I went this morning and heard one bird gobble on the roost a long ways off followed by a gunshot at 6:15. I then had someone come into my calling around 8:15. And then later i had one gobble at 9, i got set up maybe 150 yds from him and some jackass came walking full speed at the bird blowing some awful call and then either trying to gobble with a mouth call or gobble tube and that turkey disappeared. That wrapped my hunt up. I will truly never understand what that persons game plan was but it was not a good one.

The few times I’ve hunted Yates every single turkey I called to ran the opposite direction

i described it as the "full public land experience". I did meet a pretty nice guy out there though so i guess the only thing i missed out on was getting in a fight over a turkey.

I tried turkey hunting out there last year. Full disclosure, ive never killed a turkey and had no idea what i was doing. What i can tell you is I ran into a lot of hunters. With that being said. I would occasionally here a gobble and laid eyes on a few turkeys. But could never get in close enough to seal the deal. I wish I had a Jon boat to and could hunt them from the lake. The few times i heard turkeys I would get there at 4 am and hike through the dark and get as far off the road as I could closer to the lake. I also saw a gobbler cross gold mine road when i was riding around out there last year before season.

I really think Id like turkey hunting, i just don't know what I am doing and do not have the time to try and learn this year.
