Can't think of a better way to spend a cold 17 degree January morning than strolling in the woods calling turkeys.

I'm usually more tickled about any fall/winter bird than I am a lovesick spring gobbler. Always seem to have to work harder for them...

That's a fine bird! And admit it, you know that you woulda felt guilty about it later if you had shot a hen. 😄

I know that the biologists say it's ok to kill hens in January, but it decimate the flock to allow even the gobblers to be hunted in March, but I know you see past that for what it is. smile

I guess my true confession is that I wouldn’t have felt guilty at all if it would’ve been a
Hen that walked up instead of a Jake.

Now if it was property that I was invested in either as a lease or owned it myself, no I wouldn’t have shot a hen… but when I go up to fall/winter hunt in Virginia cold, with no idea whether turkeys are in the neighborhood or not, I feel grateful for anything that will play with me and let me give it a ride home back to North Carolina to meet the family.😊
