Jacksonville fisherman exposed to a big wake.
Bow dug in and he was ejected. The boat swung
around and the prop chewed up his arm. Kill switch
didn't work. A brave boater darted inside the circling
boat, and rescued him. news4jax

One time, I was checked by marine police. They told me to crank the motor then pull the kill switch. It's the only time I've ever had that happen.

Hungry Fisherman Trail made all boats check kill switches every morning before blastoff.
Good habit. Glad he survived.

I remember years ago same thing happened to some duck hunters. Someone saw it from their house and went out and saved them

Funny story, I was towing a guy in one day because his engine quit while
running down the lake. After a mile or two another boat stopped to
See if he could help. Turns out he had found a life jacket floating with a
Kill switch lanyard attached to it. Didn’t take long to put two and two together.

Test mine monthly. My boat partner always brings a grandkid or two. The twins are 14 and I'm letting them get experience driving my boat. The first rule is to attach the kill switch. Never know if one day those early lessons may pay off.

No need to check mine. It's a pretty common occurrence for me to forget to unhook it when I move out of my seat and then wonder why my motor won't crank.

I installed a new ignition switch on my Yamaha F115 this years. Went and got just the switch, and came home to find that the connector for the new switch was one style, the old kill switch used a different one. Went back and swapped it for the entire replacement panel, with a new kill switch. Swapped over the parts and went to fire it up, just spinning and no fire. I spent the next few minutes checking all the connections, tried again. Went to the tool box and grabbed my test light and meter, ready to really diagnose the problem. As I was climbing back into the boat, the problem became apparent to my DA. Never installed the new lanyard and clip on the new switch…

Feel a little better. Pulled mine out yesterday afternoon hooked it up to the hose and fired her off. Gave the kill switch a pull and she shut on down. Thank god I have not had to find out the hares way it didn’t work. Thanks for the reminder to check it out.
