Amen! It's been a tough year...

I hunt in Roxana and have had similar results. Have seen a few does and a few young bucks. However, the guys that hunts with us told me yesterday that this pst Sunday he saw 9 does in one area (very unusual for our area) that took off when a pack of 10 coyotes came (killed the biggest one!) and 4-5 does & bucks in another area but couldn't get a shot due to the thickets. Maybe he's got better luck than me. Maybe they're just moving more starting last weekend. Either way, stay on point, keep hunting, be patient and it'll turn around.

I don't know how many acres you have in your club, but search out the areas that a lot of people are overlooking. Meaning, hunt where people have not been hunting. During this part of the season, you usually have a lot more people in the woods, therefore pushing deer to undisturbed areas. Rut or no rut, bucks don't go totally crazy and they like a quiet place. I have killed many deer doing this. Find a good thicket with sign. Most hunters aren't going to go to the trouble of hunting there.

Also clearcuts are great this time of year if you have any.

duck killer, I can commiserate with you. This season has not gone so well for me. While my buddy has put away 3 I have had only one shot at a deer (back in October). I should be out today, but have learned that when it gets frustrating it may be time to step back a min. I may go out tomorrow, or I may change up and say to "h" with the deer and go try to find a hog. Sometimes I think it's just the other guys turn.

Thanks guys. Yeah so all of the bitching about my luck and I finally killed a little 7 point on friday! He was young but I was hungry haha. He came in to a scrape line I was watching and was running a little cow horn spike off. So I finally got one this year. But im still after it. Gonna try to find his granddaddy!

Congrats! Where'd ya end up finding him at? Did you find the thickest stuff you could find?

I have found that sometimes we can over-complicate deer hunting. Food and bedding. Find the food source, find the bedding. In my opinion rubs tell you where he's been, not where he's going. I have my best luck hunting trails. I've also found if I just "relax" and enjoy the woods, I seem to see more deer. All this being said, sometimes it just ain't your year........

More details my friend! Time? Bottom or top of the ridge, near a food source? Big ridge or small? Was it a new area you tried or have you been scouting this spot out all season? I too have had horrible luck all season. I will hopefully be taking off this weekend to see If I can try my luck again. All the pictures I have are at night.

This is a place I have been hunting for the better part of the season. It is in an area no one likes to hunt and on a water branch. I have literally climbed in the area about 15-20 times. Saw some does early season but never anything else. But I have a monster 8 on camera in the area but have only seen him once in person and he stood at 84yds during bow season. But the are is beautiful hardwoods, with nice bedding pines behind them with a active water branch and a very good food plot. He came in and at 85yds to check a scrape line and he freshened one of them up and I decided I couldn't take it any longer. And put my brand new burris scope on him and he met a 30-06 180 grain. He never flinched a muscle!
