This the first year I have planted corn for the deer on my land. I own a 104 acres and planted a couple of fields with the biggest being a powerline of 2.5 acres. Has anybody that planted it notice a difference in the hunting? Did it pull and hold deer on your place? Did you leave it standing all year?any info appreciated

Coons will probably have it all eaten before season. Lol

That’s if the crows don’t pull it up first. 😂

My best friends grandparents had a nice 80 w pretty hardwoods and pasture - right by the hardwoods they had nice size deer field and on front side of field they always left about 20 yards deep of standing corn all way across front side of field and the field was a great producer
Not sure how much the corn helped - deer would get in it. It was a cool setup - they had shooting house at the backside of the corn - made it easy to slip in and out - you were hidden coming and going

First year- didnt eat it all...... Second year- ate it all, it lasted all season..... Third year-had it ate by January..... Year four- all gone by the time season started. Corn readily available is the best way ive seen to increase deer sightings. I prefer standing corn or broadcast over a field. Put 250-300lb out through a cyclone spreader every 3 days and see what happens.

Corn will be all gone by season if you have many deer. It may help with cover but I still like it because it’s fun to plant and watch grow.

Similar to my results, except they did eventually find it that first year and had it all eaten by February. The next year they cleaned it up by the first of the season, and next year wiped it out very soon after it matured. I gave up planting it for several years and then repeated the cycle. If there is no corn grown in the area, deer have to be conditioned to eat it, but once they are they eat it quickly and it's not worth the trouble.

I had the best results planting June 1 and using a tropical variety. It didn't mature until later in the year and it lasted much longer than the RR I planted the second cycle. Standing corn benefits a lot of wildlife other than deer. The turkeys used it a lot once mature, but it was also a great bugging area for the poults as it was growing.

Pcp that first year i left corn standing was the first year i realized there was a viable population of turkeys around. There were six gobblers that lived in that cornfield all deer season. I walked within 50yds of them several times and they just watched me. Started that next spring doing what we could do to help them along. If i could, i would plant 15-20 acres of corn every year for the animals. Im just not hardly set up for it. 3-4acres is about all i can do and thats just not enough, it dont last.

I just put in an ace worth of corn and beans to see what happens here at the house. I’ll plant some green in it in the fall as well. I’m hoping it at least attracts more sightings.

Last year was the first year we planted corn across the main property. IMO, it increased the amount of deer I had on camera all year long and had them hanging around all year. I’m hoping after a few years of soybean and corn that we see a big boom of deer hanging closer for longer.
