Ford spokesman Said Deep told the Free Press. “While some F-150 underbody steel components may show signs of surface rust, this will have no impact on part performance or life.”

Yeah, sure it won't.

That's part of their new "green initiatives"..........their trucks are now biodegradable.

Yeah, but didn't they at least make it right by completely replacing the entire frame?

Yup. Ford will likely be pushed to that as the problem gets worse.

A $50,000 truck shouldn't be getting any rust that quickly no matter which part it is imo.

Yep. The problem didn't show up before the first oil change either. Ford has a mess on their hands.

"Why do you ask"?

Interesting - I was under my 2009 F150 checking the air pressure in the spare this Sunday and saw very little surface rust.on the underbody

The 21's are having more than just rust issues. Their quality control in general is lacking badly. Fit and finish being some of the most concerning.

It looks to me that it's just the rear axle. I doubt it has anything to do with the actual steel itself, but more likely some coating issues from the supplier. My guess is that it is a localized issue that a vendor had with either the coating formula or issues with temperature or environment when the coating was applied.

The only resolution is for Ford to recall those immediately, pull them off and either replace them or sandblast and recoat. Since most local dealerships probably don't have the facilities to do that, it looks like replacement is in order and they better do it quick, since the F-150 is the cash cow for FOMOCO...

I thought the F150 was made in Buffalo. Nevermind. Some of the 0anels are made in the Buffalo Stamping Facility. I spent a couple days in there a decade or so back. That facility was built during the heyday of the UAW. The facility resembles more of a large high school than that of a plant. Just a very strange layout for an automotive facility.

The UAW facilities I’ve been to have all been a lot different than I’m accustomed to.
