I usually see it in hardwoods or pines. These deer in Winston county have PTSD so they don’t come out in green fields, they get shot at day and night year round

I’ve seen more in creek and swamp bottoms along the edges and in between thickets than just about anywhere else. I’ve seen them chase in fields and in cut overs for sure but I’ve got three spots In creek swamps along the edges of big cane thickets that are absolute money when they are chasing. If they are actively chasing, I can go in there and will see bucks running does. I’m real picky about what I pull the trigger on and might not see one I want to shoot but I’ll see some chasing for sure if I’m on an all day sit.

Yep especially in the evenings. This morning I hunted a field that’s surrounded by 5yo pines on 3 sides and 25 yo natural regrowth on the 4th. A bunch of different trails converge there and a pretty good 8 didn’t disappoint. He just needs to make it one more year.

This afternoon I saw a spike chasing a doe leaving open hardwoods and headed into a 10 year old cutover. After 5-10 minutes, a good buck came walking fast on the same trail with his nose on the ground and I killed him. Deer hunting does require some patience and trigger control. However, there is also a lot of luck involved, too.
