People all over the country live with bears. Black bears aren't much to be afraid of.

Black bears kill more people each year than grizzlies...and usually with the intention of eating them...just sayin.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

guy i work with had one track his sent to the stand lost it where he had got in his climber circled the tree a few times and sat down.finally left after a few minutes

The bear would have known I was there by the awful sounds and smell coming from the top of the ladderstand.

Since the ratio of black bears living near humans is alot higher than grizzlies, law of probability says more black bear incidents will happen. But they are skiddish.

Thumbs up to the hunter that kept his cool and now has awesome video of the experience. I would imagine that this hunter has been around black bears before and didn't make an irrational decision to shoot.
If you're scared, as I would have been when the bear started climbing the ladder, I would have made my presents known to the bear when he/she first put his/her paw on the first step.
Had the bear kept coming, a load of lead or broadhead would have been throw! However, this hunter handled himself like a pro and everyone is happy.

One climbed a ladder and attacked a man in Mobile county few years ago. Turned out he was hunting over a pile of corn (VERY uncommon in Mobile county "roll eyes") and got a ticket for that as well as getting chewed on.

There have been less than 60 black bear fatalities recorded in the last 100 years. I grew up with black bears around and have heard of plenty on people's porches, eating out of their bird feeders, getting in their trash, ad other encounters, but I never knew of anyone being hurt or killed by one, much less eaten by one.
Of all the things in the world to be scared of, a black bear is low on my list.

We've got them in neiborhoods down here all the time and their always more afraid of you then you are of them.

It is not uncommon for black bears to climb into stands that are located over a bait pile and eat their meal that they took from the bait site.
Typically, when a bear does climb into the stand, it is a smaller bear and there is a bigger bear using the bait site.
If have seen deer leg bones, rotten meat, bear poop, etc., in stands that I have hunted out of.
