Private farm ponds I know a few places where there are HAWGS. The biggest I have heard of in on Jordan, and Guntersville in the springtime when they are starting to go on bed..

There was a 9.5 pounder caught on Lake Jordan last saturday in a tournament. Last year I personally saw a 9 pounder weighed in on Mitchell.

My brother used to work for the state. They would shock fish, somewhere around Mobile, tag them and keep up with where people caught them. He told me there are a lot more 9and 10 pounders out there than most folks would suspect.

There have been several caught in the past couple of weeks here in Guntersville. Also, we had the lake record spotted bass caught last weekend at 4.75 lbs. The same man that holds the lake record for largemouth at 15.10 caught it in Town Creek flipping a jig at rocks near the infamous Aldeer fishing tournament site.

Lake Seminole and Lake Eufaula both offer the type of fishing your are looking for in my opinion. Both are on the GA/ALA line.
If you dont mind paying a fair price for a fishing trip, I would strongly recommend Great Southern Outdoors, one of the sponsors. Just ask for Ginger and book you a trip. They a some great bass fishing and you will not be dissappointed, I promise.
I am heading down there in the March for a day of fishing myself.

I caught this one 10lbs even in a lake in wilcox co. They have caught an 11 & a 13 pounder out of the lake also. They caught one that was 30 1/2 inches long after spawn that they didnt have a scale with them. The state record was 16 & some odd pounds but only 30" long. All where released back to the lake.

Lake Eufala set the 15 fish tournament record at a Bassmasters event in the 70's at 138lb Thats almost a 9 lb avg for 15 fish!! That 6lb bigger than Paul Elias 132lb he caught at falcon lake this year.

I would guess it would be about 100-120 miles from Gulf Shores but Hurricane Lake and Bear Lake have monster bass {up to 17 lbs.). They are in Florida and are located in the Blackwater State Forest. Leon Brook Hines is only about six miles from Hurricane Lake but it's across the state line in Alabama.
