Those of you that send off soil samples. Do you use Auburn or others? I was looking at the Auburn website earlier, but never could find if they provide the soil sample boxes or what?

I got my boxes at my county extension office and sent them to the address on Auburnâs website. I did mine back in May so I could have the lime in the ground by June

I use Biologic labs and get a report emailed within 72 hours usually. They use a private lab. Quick and painless. I just follow instructions and mail in.

You don't need one of the special boxes; the plastic bags work. I did this about a year ago and I got the results within a week after mailing them to auburn.
There should be instructions online telling you exactly what to do and how to bag it.

There should be instructions online telling you exactly what to do and how to bag it. Are you using ziploc bags or approved bags that they recommend. I looked all over their page about soil testing and the form to fill out for it and found no info about bags or boxes. I'm fine with using paper or plastic, just needed to know where to get them or if it mattered.

257 recommends anyone other than Auburn (and he is an Auburn fan). He feels they havenât kept up with changing practices and theory (or something along those lines).
Paper bags versus ziplocks isnât a big deal unless some of your soil is wet. Stop by the Extension Office and get the paper bags if youâre sending them to Auburn. Go to a local chemical dealer (Helena Chemical or similar) if you want to send them somewhere else. If youâre not buying the fertilizer from them be prepared to pay for the bags or be told âwe just ran outâ.
You didnât ask this either but my routine was to get three samples in each plot about the size of a softball. Put them in a 5 gallon bucket and mix them up good. Then fill up the bag with that and dump the excess. Getting a sample from just one place in each plot runs the risk of that having been a place fertilizer or lime was spilled and getting an analysis that doesnât represent the dirt across the whole plot.
Also donât forget to label the samples so you know where is where and what.

The coop in Albertville will send your samples off for you. It is close to the same price as Auburn, but a lot easier. No trip to extension office or post office. You could check with Jackson County coop they may do the same thing.

Whoever you choose be sure to opt for the âemailed resultsâ for a little quicker turnaround time. I know Auburn offers this, not sure of the others

All I know is that professor jesse Goldberg is the man when it comes to soil and stool samples. He got promoted to researcher at Aubrin.
