I'm looking at putting a on board charger on my boat and was wondering which one is the best on the market for the money. Any suggestions?

I've got a Minn-Kota 2 bank charger that I've had on my boat for 3 or 4 years now and have not had any problems with it at all. I got it at Academy and I paid right at $100 for it.

I have 2 Guest two-bank chargers on my boat. I've never had any trouble with them. They charge quick and don't boil the batteries over. What more can you ask for?

Mine's a dual pro 3 bank 45 amp charger. Works great for me and has held up good so far.

I once asked the same question about chargers because opinions seem to differ somewhat. Some people believe that a low and slow trickle charge is the best way to go. A few years ago there seemed to be a shift towards fast charging using chargers that operate at higher amps. A guy at crappie.com posted this link and it had very interesting information about batteries. http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Battery_FAQ.htm Basically, the further down you run a battery, the more you shorten it's life. Charge them quick and keep them charged. Find a charger that will automatically switch to a trickle charge once the batteries are charged.

Here's a hint I learned the hard way ... If you let the trolling batteries discharge to 8 volts or below, the MinnKota On Board will give you a unit malfunction indicator. I learned that after buying a new MinnKota 2 bank only to have it give me the same indicator. 
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Thanks for the info. I purchased the "Extreme Performance I-Series" 5/5/5 3-bank charger that is produced for Bass Pro by ProMariner. It seemed to fit what I was looking for so we'll see if it lives up to the advertisements.
