Just recieved a letter in the mail today with the application and telling me I am eligible since I have two kids in a free lunch school. I take pride in providing for my family and have never received nor asked for handouts. It frustrates me that they are sending these out. My guess would be that most people in my county who are recieving them are already on the ebt program and now will be receiving more assistance. Just the gov. trying to become more socialist. I would never walk down a street and ask anyone for money or hold a sign begging for food. However if I walk down the sidewalk and see a $20 bill I would definitely pick it up. I pay my fair share and more in taxes and will probably fill out the application for some free food. Maybe have a cookout for some of my less fortunate co-workers or friends. Just doesn't feel right to be getting ebt assistance though.

I overheard people talking about this the other day. All of mobile county is free breakfast and lunch in public school so I guess they will all get something. Not sure how it works and my kids arent in public school so I dont know.

I got one of those letters also. We live in a free lunch county but certainly would not qualify under normal circumstances. Wife and I are discussing it mainly because if we accept then what does that put us on the hook for? Is it going to being taxed year? What is the catch?

Here is typical waste. I teach 5th grade we are about 80% free and reduced. 5th grade eats last. They are not allowed by law to give the kids the left overs. So they have to dump it down the disposal instead of letting some hungry kid eat it.

well they got to make it so the parents will have more money for drugs. the schools are trying to take over the family, I had one tell me that I had to take my kid to the doctor. I sent them a note and told them I don't have to and they are not allowed to get involved in my kids medical care. They literally thought they have more power than the dad.

The EBT-for-all program will condition even more people to accept government assistance. It is a way to make Republicans more closely resemble Democrats.

Saw a copy of the letter. Because every kid in mobile county public school is eligible they are giving roughly 300 dollars per child in ebt benefits regardless of your income.

I wonder how this reports to federal and state agencies as to the income reporting of a household and unseen actions from that. What will it change at tax time when a household with $150K gross income and one child is getting free EBT lunches? Under logical terms that would be or should be fraud.

That is why I am not sending the letter back to get my free EBT just cause I live in a free-lunch county. I would be committing fraud because I make enough money to feed my family. Some folks may say I am stupid to not get the free money, but damn its just wrong.

Back in the day, sixty so years ago, we had lunch cards, yellow was the best, green was the worst. Always felt sorry for the green ones. It didn’t mean much, maybe a dessert or so, it was the stigma of it.

We have 3 elementary schools that get that gig. Whole school is free no matter what, or how much you parents make. Been that way for 5 years at least.
