If you haven't given this at least some thought in the 8 year period of illegal squatting by the Muslim Kenyan, then you are behind the curve on it. A place with a permanent water source, high ground, plentiful game/fish is what most folks have in mind.

I think that in the event of some type of calamity that everyone should have enough stuff in their car or easily carried to get them back to wherever they consider their safe place.
The Snowpocalylse was one such example where I read where women were stranded in their cars with no warm clothes, office high heels on with no hiking boots or even sneakers. my Brother in law had to end up spending 3 nights on the side of the interstate in his work van trying to make it back home to Boaz.
So in my opinion everyone needs to have some sort of "Bug Out" bag in their car, so in case of some event they at least have enough supplies to get home.

Wiley and Irishguy are both spot on. I keep a backpack in my truck...it has everything I'd need to walk home, if necessary, from anywhere I might be. Food, water, ways to get more food and water, defense, shelter, change of clothes, etc. The pack is way heavier than I'd carry for any distance...it's 78 lbs...but if I ever truly needed it, a lot of stuff would be culled, depending on situation, distance, time of year, etc. That said, most of the time, your vehicle is the safest place to be, though. Once you've left it, what you have with you is what you have to work with. My truck is an F-250, it doesn't mind the 78 lb pack, so in an emergency, it'll carry that and me as far as possible before I ever think about culling anything.

You have to remember that most people live in big cities, and increasingly so. I know people that live in NYC that have bugged out. Meaning come to smaller towns. NYC is not a good place to be right now. New Orleans is probably not very nice either.

Exactly.....I don't pretend to have some elaborate plan to escape to some remote hide-out, but I always try to make sure I have whatever I need to get home. In the winter, I always keep some warm clothes in the truck. Also keep basic first-aid kit and some water or gatorade or something, along with a bullet-slinger or 2...

Since leaving the land of hurricanes and tornadoes, I have learned a good bit about earthquakes, wildfires, and bug-out bags. Think of it this way--if you had a few minutes notice, what would you need packed (in your home or vehicle) if there was a possibility that your home would be totally destroyed and you could never come back. And what do you need in your vehicle at all times in case the calamity strikes when you are away.

I think most people underestimate the whole undertaking of bugging out. Alabama is not THAT rural. Very few places a person can go and truly be “away” from civilization. Over the years, I’ve heard lots of people talk about bugging out then end up saying they would go to their hunting club.  That’s about like the people that have thousands and thousands of rounds of ammo but two magazines, not to mention, no way to really transport all that ammo if they did truly have a safe bug out location. My idea of a bug out bag is a bag to keep in the truck with me in case of being caught in inclement weather like has happened in the past. Extra clothes, food/water, fire starter, first aid kit, firearm or two, etc...

I know where I would go and it has 3.5 miles of bluff and I can see from Skyline to Bellefonte and everything in between.
