Found this blue/green sticky stuff on some shotgun shells today. Any idea what this might be? Dangerous or don't worry about it.

That’s corrosion and I wouldn’t shoot them.

Where they’ve gotten wet. Do what you want but I’ve shot a bunch of them like that with no issues.

If it does, I'd have a talk with whoever sold it to her, because it's not gold. Gold doesn't tarnish.

I've shot shells with dry green corrosion on the brass, but I've never seen sticky green corrosion. I'm guessing the powder is decomposing. I wouldn't shoot em.

First and foremost, i would never take these hunting but was would use these up shooting skeet or target practicing. Mainly concerned as to whether they are dangerous to me or my gun.

I have an old paper bag full of old shotgun shells that were my dad's
These shell are many decades old.
Most look ok, but a few are questionable.

So my question is: how do you properly dispose of shotgun shells that you don't want to take a chance on?

split one open to see what the powder looks like...if good, wipe off and shoot the rest. the sticky part is my hang-up, unless it is purely external.

if nothing else, split the end and separate the shot from the charge.
