This statement in another thread made me think back to a conversation that I had with an old timer years ago about the gradual speeding up up time as you age. His explanation for it was the best I have ever heard. Basically what he said was that when you're young, lets say age 5, the year seems to drag on forever because it makes up a whole 1/5 or 20% of your entire life. But as you get older a single year becomes a smaller and smaller fraction of your time here on earth making it seem as though they are passing by more quickly than before. So that by the time you are 60 a whole year only makes up 1/60th or 1.6% of your time. I'll only be hitting the 30 year mark this year but this is starting to really hit home with me as I watch my year and a half old daughter grow more and more every single day. Random Monday morning thoughts and ramblings. Y'all have a good one!

More random thoughts.
If the good Lord doesn't promise us tomorrow,
Is your "1/5 of your entire life really 1/5th or is it 1/99th?

Unfortunately, it is true that the older you get the faster time seems to fly by. Every day that passes is 1 day closer to your last day on earth. A very good reason to get your house in order and make sure things between you and your creator are in good shape or eternity may not be so pleasant for you

Very, Very True. I'm 53, and as of lately I don't see time to accomplish all of the things I want to do before I'm "done". Life gets in the way.

My grandmother told me when I turned 20 that the years would begin to "get faster", and was she ever right about that one!
I was recently talking to someone about how time really seems to fly. He remarked that he was dropping the phrase "as slow as Christmas" from his vocabulary as it seemed to come so quickly these days. As a kid it seemed like an eternity for Christmas to arrive. Now, it seems to get here in just a few short blinks of an eye.
While typing, my mind went to this passage:
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Thanks for sharing this, Coosa. I heard this same exact explanation a few months back and it has stuck in the back of my mind since then. Solid reminder.

You know you're getting old when you mention something about yesterday and then realize it was 10-15 years ago I had that happen just this morning and as I said it I realized my oldest son turned 30 a few weeks ago. The years seem like weeks once did.

I told Morris one day that I knew I was getting old because I drove by the high school one morning and my first thought was “ I wonder if her Dad knows she left home dressed like that” now I sit here thinking that was almost 20 years ago

I was looking at our Building Management System and Power Management System this morning for work and the “2020” on the date really stuck out. Hard to believe y2k was that long ago. My little girl who isn’t even 2 yet told me “night night daddy” as I lay her in her bed last night. It absolutely melted my heart. My boy is 5 months and my girl will be 2 in May. Seems like it was just yesterday that my daughter was born, but somehow she seems so old already. Maybe it’s because she became a big sister at such a young age. Time definitely begins to fly when you have kids.

I'm same age and I'm not rich but not poor I've got a son about to turn 25 , probably will be married in next 12-18 months. He has never had to go hungry ,never not had all his needs fulfilled and a lot of his wants. I've been married to a great woman for 30 years . I don't think I could have got one any better. I consider I've done all I was sent here to do and the only thing I want in life is to see my son continue on a good patch and grandchildren. If I live to see this I will consider to use the current term "Living my best life" or in my case lived my best life.

Another thing too is that when you get older and like me and not in the physical shape you once were and not able to do things that you once took for granted, it just doesn't seem real and is hard to accept. My mind is that of a 30 year old, but my body disagrees.
For you younger guys, quit putting off a hunt out west thinking you'll do it later when you have the money or time. A lot of us don't have that option anymore when later arrives. I'm just so thankful that circumstances allowed me to do this twice when I was still able to do it. I would love to go again, but can't do the mountains any more.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Will be 54 in April and it doesn't bother me. I don't think about aging, dying, "man, I'm old," struggling with it or anything. It's just my age and I keep on going.

When I hit 50 the reality of More behind me than in front of me hit home Though anybody could leave this earth at any time theres just something about that half century mark that makes a man think I've done most of what I've wanted to do in my life time but still have a few thing planned The way I've treated myself and the fun I've had I think I'm doing pretty good right now
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself The older I get the better I used to be

At 51, now I have lived more than most people do in 100 years. I figure if my number comes up tomorrow, I did okay.

I'm 62, the clock is ticking faster every day and have come to realize that I didn't start early enough on several things. It's depressing.
