I always thought the best tires went on the front? Tire dealer said no, but I’m wondering if he just didn’t want to do the free rotation. I hated Tire Engineers, but I had no idea how bad the people that bought them out would be.

If the rear tire blows out you have no control but if the front blows you have some control over your car so yeah best tires on the rear.

Not a tire guru but your "better" tires belong on rear is what I've heard.

I heard the opposite

If you are rear wheel drive, then the power is to the rear wheels.

the better tires go on the front. when you have to stop fast all your vehicle weight shifts foward and your rear wheels barely touch. odds are in the rare event of a blowout, your probably gonna slam on the brakes anyways.
I looked it up and allstate recommends the rear due to hydroplaning.

Past few years all the tire stores want to put new tires on back which is not the way it was recommended 20 yrs ago.i want my new tires on the front especially on a front wheel drive car.on a two wheel drive truck I might want better tires on back depending how worn tires are.

If you're rotating to keep the mileage wear close to even, then the most tread goes on the rear if RWD. If they are in a condition where a blowout may happen, then get new ones.

If you got bad tires get new ones don't play with tires or brakes.

I have never had a front blow out, but I’ve had two rear blowouts over the years. I don’t have any problem controlling the vehicle.

I always felt better on front was safer. Last time i had mine rotated they put the worn ones off back on front though. Who knows. I guess if they are all in good shape and not completely worn out it doesn't really matter.

I’m confused by some of you. You talk about them putting the old tires on the back when they rotate them. If they rotate them, they are putting the front on the rear and the rear on the front. So, of course the better tires are put on the back if they were on the front when you got there.

Better tires on the rear. The rear steers you in a hard brake situation. You want it to stay behind you not passing you. Just about all car and tire manufacturers recommend this. In the old days Before modern tech tires weren’t as well built and everybody thought they need to be on the front. Hundreds of engineers and millions of dollars in testing say the go on the rear now.

This is right. If the front blows out you will have more trouble steering the vehicle safely. I was always taught by my father that the better tires go on the front and I'll trust what he taught me over Aldeer, no offense.

I understand the logic behind having more tread on the back to prevent hydroplaning, but I also understand that you shouldn't drive in the rain if you have no tread left anyways. Slow down if that is an issue.

Agreed my best 2 r on front of my work truck n That was suggested by the tire place...may be wrong but it makes sense to me in my lil brain

What gripes me is that they told my wife it needed an alignment because the inside of the front tires were just starting to wear. I called them and asked if the tires had enough tread left to spend the money on an alignment or was it time to get new tires. He said the tires had significant tread left on them. So I said go ahead. Then she goes to pick it up and they tell her she needs two new tires. Told her it needed a new battery too, strange because it's less than a year old. I put it on the tester and it shows perfectly fine. I hate those people with a passion. Never did get the rotation.
