Anyone have any tips for catching striped bass on lake Martin?

Put a hook down deep in the water

Find them on the electronics in 40-60' of water. Drop live or cut shad 4-6' above them. Hang on. Kowaliga is a good place to start.

We either:

1) drop a buck tail jig’s down on downriggers about 25-30’ deep and troll at about 4mph

Or

2) bottom fish like snapper but with small egg weights and small hooks nose hooked through a black salty.

This is at bridge last weekend at daylight

I dont know about Lake Martin. At Smith lake we find them with our electronics then either drop live shad down on them with 4 rods, or troll through them with down riggers at 25 to 30 ft with bucktail jigs or Alabama rigs.

We went yesterday...you want to find big schools and your fish finder looking like Bama1971's or like this:

I ended up catching 6 out of one school, and 4 out of another. We kept 4 fish total between the 2 of us.

We definitely FIND THEM on electronics and then drop our lines.

We would have 2 and sometimes 3 on at one time. A heck of a lot of fun!

you fish the stretch from sand island to the bridge? I always see 2 or three center consoles trolling or jigging there on my way to fish for spots.

Yup seen you plenty of times. i fish out of a 17.5ft lowe black aluminum boat

I usually put in at kowaliga between a little before midnight and start fishing lights a little past the scrushy mansion there are a few good deep ones but you never know whats on them so i rig up for whatever will bite sometimes you can dang near limit out on crappie others you can fill the boat up with stripes i usually have a small spoon rigged for crappie a large spoon for stripes and a shakey head with a dark trick worm you can catch dang near anything in the lake on a small 1 3/4 - 2 inch spoon around those lights. If you cant catch something off one of them they aint biting.

how you like your Lowe I just bought a 17.5 Lowe Stinger im still getting used to it its a little rougher riding than id prefer but it has plenty of front and back deck area for fishing i also like the front live well dont have to jump to the back of the boat everytime i catch a fish. youd know me if you saw me ill be glowing red.

I love mine, I have a 175 stinger as well. Had it 3 years now. Ya its a little rougher riding out there on lake martin, but its extremely light and has a lot more deck space than most. the beam width make a huge difference. Ive got a buddy with an express that's the same length as mine, but he hates how narrow the beam is.

We have a few of the lights around my in-laws that i fish at night. sure is fun catching them on those lights.

The most exciting way I ever found to catch them was to cast into the shoals in March or April. A 25 pound striper in swift current will really stress bass tackle. We also caught some at the first set of shoals on Hillabee Creek, and casting from the bank below Thurlow dam.
