I’m only 37 so forgive me if I’m off Base. It seems that growing up a chain of events were set into motion in late 1992/ early 1993 that has continued to spiral into the debauchery we experience today. I realize a lot of people will point to the 60s as the breaking point but the 80s were so good I feel like there were really good times and genuinely good people up to late 1992. Since then things just really seem out of whack. Thoughts?
Clinton took office in early 1993, but he and his wife were wreaking havoc for many people before then. That what you were thinking?

Well I realize that lines up with the time frame and probably plays a big part but I was alluding to that. If you remember a lot of world events happened then that were important as well. Iraq refused weapons inspectors, the World Trade Center bombing, the Rodney King Trial, etc. It just seemed like that was a turning point in our country.
I started as a police officer in 1986 and things were definitely different then. Looking back now I can say it was a gradual change and your time frame is about right. Things were changing during that time. For instance, in Selma, we had never had a gang problem until then. Suddenly we became aware of it and I was sent to New Orleans for a week to a gang school to be educated. While I was there, the Rodney King story broke. The reason I can remember it so well is one of the instructors at the school was a LA County Sergeant. It angered him and he said some things about the LAPD that he probably shouldn't have told everyone. Just say, the other LEOs in LA didn't appreciate the way the PD operated.
I know that Selma has never been the same since those times. At one point it was a good place to raise a family. Now, those of us that are still here are doing all we can to make sure our children don't return here once they move away to college or the military.
In the political world, I think that era saw the radicalization, for lack of a better term, of the Democratic Party.
Like pieces of a puzzle, all these things fit together and i commend you younger guys for recognizing this.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
Lyndon Johnson and "The Great Society" started it. It was a noble endeavor, "Setting out to 'end' poverty" but you can't really end poverty. People have to pick themselves up by their own boot straps. If you give poor people who don't want to try and succeed money all you are doing is creating dependence. Once you create a welfare State you rob people of their own sense of accomplishment and create a generational devolution into entitlement and a destruction of the family unit. We are living in the times that are the spawn of those decisions to give folks something that they did not earn. All we have done is rob them of their self respect and dignity.
"Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition."
- Thomas Jefferson
“Repeal that [welfare] law, and you will soon see a change in their manners. St. Monday and St. Tuesday, will soon cease to be holidays. Six days shalt thou labor, though one of the old commandments long treated as out of date, will again be looked upon as a respectable precept; industry will increase, and with it plenty among the lower people; their circumstances will mend, and more will be done for their happiness by inuring them to provide for themselves, than could be done by dividing all your estates among them.”
-Benjamin Franklin
“When the people find that they can vote themselves money that will herald the end of the republic.”

This sums up the majority of the democratic vote I believe, at least in this area. There are people who vote democrat who are vehemently morally opposed to their platform but continue to vote for them because of the benefits they receive.

And the cruel irony is, the democrats don't actually do any good for those people.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.
Its complicated with a lot of moving parts. Jawbone and Irish touched on a couple of things. I would add that in 1963, prayer was taken out of schools and then 10 years later, in 1973, abortion was legalized. They were both symbolic, in that, they allowed society to not believe that there were consequences for one's actions.

Yep... Never have. All they have ever done is create more social programs to ensure that their voter base would stay dependent on them. It's amazing how smart our Founding Father's were isn't it.

I don't claim to have a definitive answer, times have always changed but it seems that the Vietnam war created such distrust in the government like never seen before and that trust has really never recovered. Every organization / country NEEDS a leader or leadership and we as a country have failed to find anyone to lead us. I could go on, but I won't. It's too early and I'm already getting pissed.
Before Vietnam everyone trusted the Government and it was all Apple Pie and Lemonade.. After Vietnam and Nixon... not so much.
It has been a series of events including The Great Society which kind of started the snowball rolling... But to me the biggest impact started beginning with the Warren Court in the 1960's and the Burger Court on the 70's is where the wheels started to really come off this country. That was the period of time we all decided we could legislate through our Court System. And I think by about the early 90's you started to see the real impact of many court rulings including taking prayer out of schools, no longer say the pledge, no flag in the classroom, legalize abortion, and pick 1,000 more issues to get the real scope of what changed. The Courts started taking up a bunch of social issues and cases and ruling on them.... Nearly everyone has been impacted by those rulings. Before this time the court was more focused on the Constitution and it's strict interpretation. Afterwards up until present day... Social Justice Warriors for the liberals. They know they can't legislate their agenda so they have been using the court system to get what they want for nearly 50 years at this point. Appears to have worked very well for them.
This is why is it so important to hold your nose and vote to put conservatives in office. They appoint our justices. Hate Trump all you want but if he get the opportunity to load the Supreme Court he is giving us all a gift that will keep on giving for decades. It is that serious. Think if Hillary had won and had the opportunity to appoint a couple justices we'd all be in serious trouble they would open the border, ban guns.... a whole slew of things.
Serious business. Take note today for 2020.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

This is the truth. The supreme court is THE most important issue in national elections. PERIOD. The left-wing whackos have been using the court system to circumvent the legislative process for over 50 years. It will take a long time to stem the tsunami of far left policies they have created, and the only way is to keep the Senate and the white house in Republican hands.

Longer than that. Marbury vs Madison (1803). Congress failed to reign on the power of the Supreme Court over 200 years ago.

I agree we lost our way during the 60's. I often speak of this to friends. For a long time I've referred to the WW2 generation as the bravest in wartime but cowards in leadership. Everyone gasps when I say that but it was that generation that came back from winning the most brutal war the world had ever seen, just to allow the erosion of our morals. Good men stood idly by and allowed it to happen. There were a lot of reasons for that (untreated PTSD, too tired mentally after war to take on any other roles of leadership, etc) and its unfortunate but its the truth.

Nice catch there. I think the degradation of or constitution really hit the slippery slope with Griswold in 1965, which has been used to validate many other subsequent court rulings like abortion.
Well, I have a different perspective. I've written several essays on it in the past. I'll start a new thread.
