I am fixing to start rounding up the parts for a 22re to 5vzfe swap. Was wondering if anyone had taken on this task before?

If you don't get your answer here, try the CAOS forum. I'll bet you'll find it there: CAOS 4X4 Good luck with the project.

I know a little bout Toyotas, got a fleet of them. What's a 5vzfe? I know some guys that have 2.7 first gen Tacoma engines in older trucks. I am fixing to start rounding up the parts for a 22re to 5vzfe swap. Was wondering if anyone had taken on this task before?

If you had said 3.4 V-6 I'd been with ya. (google !) I don't know anyone that has. Different computers and trannies/transfer cases. It could be done, but if I were going to a V6 I go with a GM. You can get an adapter, that would really perk your Toy up.

I've done a few 22R to 3RZ (taco 2.7) swaps. In my opinion the 3RZ is your best bet to replace a 22RE. You can use your existing trans/tcase It is amazing how much more power these motors have than a 22R. If your truck was a 3.0 v6 already then the 3.4 is a better swap because it will bolt up to the 3.0 transmission and motor mounts already. You will need to change out a lot more stuff to put the 3.4 in your 22RE truck. Here's a pic of the 3RZ in my '86 4Runner.

to th 2.7 thought I knew who you were Yeah, I knew you would figure who I was when I posted that. bill collecter, you are welcome to come test drive mine if you want to. I'm not that far from you. Even if you choose to do the 3.4 I can give you some info on what you will need. Might even have a few parts you could use. I just traded for a 3.4 engine myself. I'm about to start building a suzuki samurai crawler with the 3.4 and all toyota drivetrain.

Bill Collector you should see Rock Hunters "Blue Toy", very slick. You can get some good ideas. Yeah, I was fishing with the 2.7 comment. Thought you might bite.

I would love to see it. My dad and uncle were frame and body guys for 20 years each and I never could get into it. I really like messin with motors though. I think the only thing that would trouble me is the wiring harness. You can buy a harness thats ready to put in during the swap but I would love to learn how to do that part to. We should have a get together one day. I would like to meet some of you that live nearby. I am in the process of moving right now to pisgah.
I got family that lives out yalls way you may know them. They are Talley's and Wilbanks'.

I know some of both. May be yo bunch. Getting 4.88s set up shouldn't be a problem. Stick around very long you'll have a sho-nuff rock crawler in no time! I would love to see it.
