Does anyone here leave their millet standing? I always have heard whenever it is ready people mowing it or burning. I have an 8 acre feild. This is my second year planting it. Last year planted sunflowers and millet in the middle of feild then top sewed wheat around what I had planted. I did mow strips in the millet and sunflowers last year, however the doves seemed to feed in the millet just as well with it standing. Last year planted the millet about a month early. Had a lot of birds feeding in it but it had fizzled out by the time to hunt. This year I sprayed the feild twice to control the weeds. I also planted strips over the entire feild instead of just in the middle. I have strips planted about 20ft wide the length of the feild. I have top sewn wheat in between the strips. Since I sprayed the feild it is very clean from weeds. The millet is just starting to yellow. Seems like they would like some standing for cover. Going to leave it standing for the first shoot. Just curious what everyone else does. Thanks and good luck to everyone this season. Birds or not have fun with family and friends.
