I operated on a 6 month old kitten 2 months ago with a large Bot fly larvae in it's proximal neck.
The larvae are very smart at any attempt at removing them and they will quickly slide back into their oxygen chamber hole. (they surface periodically for oxygen) After 10-plus unsuccessful attempts at capturing and removal of thi foreign body with forceps...I had to laterally excise the air chamber to shorten the escape area, apply slight pressure beneath the larvae, wait for it to resurface for oxygen...and VERY quickly grab it w/small, curved, hemostats. I removed the larvae w/the small hemostats.
The tissue surrounding the area was necrotic and the kitten was obviously dying from infection. I removed two, 3 cm sections of necrotic neck muscle with my scalpel. After partial suturing and installing a Penrose drain and antibiotic tx...the kitten quickly recovered.
The former wound is completely healed and the young cat is doing well. Bot fly investment can be a terrible condition w/o medical intervention.

had to do the same years back, i used hydrogen peroxide on it, it came out long enough to get with some hemostats. nasty lil jokers

I've seen my grandfather "several times" pour repeated applications of turpentine in a wolf and it killed the worm. Kitten didn't like him after that, but it worked.

This was my 3rd successful foreign body removal on 2 kittens and one adult cat. ('wolves'/Bot fly larva).
I tried 3% H2O2 (weaker hydrogen peroxide) and curved hemostats, but the exudate and necrotic tissue oxidation blocked the larva from my view.

If a predator were to eat/ingest something afflicted with "wolves", what would happen to the predator? Would the stomach acid kill these parasites or would/could they use the predator as a new host?

I would say the stomach acid would kill it. It just a fly larva, and I know if you kill the host they wil come out when the body temp cools down.

I think the up front question for hunters would be, "is it safe to eat a squirrel that has wolves?" Many squirrel hunters wait until after the first frost to insure that the wolves are gone.
I have killed many squirrels with wolves in their skin and usually never pay any attention to them. Often if the larvae is near maturity when the squirrels body temp goes down in the vest they will move out and when you get home he will be in the hunting vest. I usually just skin um as they didn't have any.
However, occasionally, when I get one that has multi wolves and look "nasty" I will just throw them away.
The bottom line is, "since the wolf is in the skin and not the meat there is no danger in eating them."

There's a lot of damn squirrels and rabbits in the woods.
Any squirrel or rabbit I kill that has one or more of these nasty things gets tossed. Coyotes can eat 'em.
