Dang, that sucks. Didn't agree with him politically on any front, but loved his shows. He was extremely liberal but he was at least able to talk to and be friends with non-liberals. Some episodes where he is hanging out with Ted Nugent were always interesting.

He had a long history of drug and alcohol problems. However, I always found him to be fair when reviewing cultures and regions outside of his New York culture. He said the best thing he ever ate was real Cajun food and he actually shot the hog in the head for that particular show.

If you had any sense you would actually be in favor of abortion because those women are typically poorer, liberal and gasp even minorities because they would be effectively culling themselves but that would be supporting a liberal cause so you couldn't possibly do that even if it's for a gain for your dearest conservatives. I didn't agree with him politically but the sensible comments above are spot on. He put out good content. Mental health is a terrible thing. A guy I worked with at Publix while I was in school committed suicide a few weeks ago. Depression is serious and I have to be careful myself as I have a family history.

I enjoyed his show Parts Unknown, the show in MS revealed his fairness to both sides of the political spectrum. He admitted the Liberals had an unfair, unfounded view of Southerners. HIs more recent shows touched on politics almost as much as food. Strange he'd take his own life the way he often referred to death as final. He struck back at those that asked why he'd lost weight and started a fitness program, some kind of martial arts fitness deal. Said he wanted to be there for his daughter as she grew up. He seemed serious as said he didn't have any alcohol at his home, he only drank while working.

Liked his Parts Unknown Show. Did an excellent episode in France with a world reknown older chef where they bird/duck hunted with dogs, etc. was really good. Always found him entertaining.

I enjoyed both No Reservations and Parts Unknown. But let's keep this in perspective: somewhere today, a little girl is dealing with the reality that her father is gone, and he is standing before the final throne of judgement. Both are serious matters.
