Planting brown top in a field the has been in corn and soybean rotation. Should I use 10-10-10?
Not planning on cutting it, going to leave it standing until winter.

Personally, I don't know why anyone would ever use triple 8 or triple 10. A balanced fertilizer is fine if you don't soil test, but you get more for your money with trip 17 or trip 19 figuring value per unit of n, p and k, unless you just like paying for filler. Its your money

Man I'd just spread it and throw some 34-0-0 to it at ankle high. Don't take much to grow millet esp in an established Ag field

What is your purpose for planting it?

I mixed mine with the cheapest fertilizer i could get, about 100# per acre, so i could spread it with a cyclone spreader. It did fine. That was all the fertiliser it got, i dont think it was really enough to make a difference.

If your planning on planting it for dove it's way to early it only takes about 2 months to seed I'd start about 3 months before season and plant it in strips 2 weeks apart so you can cut it and replant as it matures in rows

Benc, no offense, but nobody on here is physic. Without a soil test, it's just a guess. First question I have is, whats your ph? If it's below 5.0-5.5 your wasting money fertilizing and you need to lime instead. If your ph is good, then putting out 200-300 lbs an acre of 17-17-17 should be fine, although BTM grows well in poor soils. According to what your goals are. I've planted it for dove and didn't fertilize it at all and it did well.

Not planting for doves, just planting for food/cover source for quail. I bought a place that part of it was an ag field and just want to provide some food and cover.

You can check PH yourself as long as it's around 6 id throw triple 13 on it when I plant. and some ammonium nitrate about a month after it starts growing. Lime is alot cheaper than fertilizer so getting the ph right will help you alot more than spreading fertilizer the roots can't uptake because the PH is off
