New area I’m hunting was chalked full of barred owls this
Morning. Didn’t hear any gobbles though. Will try it again in the morning. Most of the places I’ve hunted that have had turkeys also had barred owls. Y’all think it should have some turks?

I didn’t hear but one bird gobble this morning and I heard 4 different barred owls. This place has a lot of turkeys. They just didn’t talk this morning.

Like Matt said... This AM may have been one of those non gobbling mornings... Usually if you can get the Owls stirring and talking... They are the best locator calls... I usually wait to hear a crow before blowing a crow call early Good Luck

I was going to make a new post asking this question but I'll ask here. I lost my owl call last Sunday and haven't been anywhere to get another. What would you guys do in that situation. I have a crow call but didn't know if I should use it before sunrise.

I don’t ever use a crow call until I’ve heard the first real crow. I’d either let the woods wake up on their own time or owl hoot with my mouth.

Good input fellas and I do agree with y’all but the question was more geared toward whether the presence of barred owls in a certain area indicates habitat likely to support turkeys. Might not have made myself clear. A simpler question might be this: have you come across areas where you heard lots of owls but you’ve never seen/heard any turkeys?

owls have no correlation to turkeys except to make em gobble, same a log trucks, mill whistles, and any loud noise.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I have places I hunt that have both lots of owls and lots of turkeys. Only correlation is that owl hoots are so common that turkeys won’t gobble to them on the roost. One crow or hawk sounds off, and they’ll sound off too.

I have no idea habitat wise what owls require. More often than not I hear them in primarily "older" growth hardwood/pine areas with relatively open areas, however. But that's just from my experience. I didn't hunt this a.m. but planning on going in the morning.

Owls are carnivores, predators.
Turkeys are omnivores, in as much as they eat bugs and vegetation, not meat.
An owl really needs no specific habitat, other than an area with lots of rodents.
I have noticed, however, that crows are often an indication of turkeys. I have no particular evidence to support that claim, other than my own experience. But, where I see crows, I usually find turkeys nearby.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.
