What rod and reel combo do you prefer?
I am looking for a new combo this year and haven't found anything I like yet.
Only looking to spend around $300 or preferably less for the whole package.

I use a Powell inferno 6105 with a Revo S 6.4 gear ratio. For me this setup works really well and I also throw 1.5's with it.

I throw mine on a medium 7,1 villain or a 6,6 lews crankin stick. Both a a 7:1 speed. One with 8lb the other with 12lb flouro

I have looked at the 6'8" hammer rods online.
I haven't been able to pick one up yet.
Do they have a warranty?

Do they have a warranty? Yes. A limited lifetime warranty I believe but knock on wood I have never had a problem with one and I own 15 or so

I dont guess I've ever thrown a jerkbait I've meant to a few times. Guess I just need to put a couple in the boat and not take anything else
We will burn that bridge when we get there

Shimano chronarch e7 on a GLoomis smallmouth jerkbait rod for smaller jerkbaits like a jackall squirrel.
Same reel on a 66 GLoomis GL2 MH rod for larger jerkbaits like a LC Pointer 100.

Do they have a warranty? You want one? It's a 6-9 medium jerk bait rod. I have one I will sell you for $100 I am getting another 7ft to replace it. It has been used 2 or 3 trips

I personally like a shorter rod so it is easier to use without hitting the water. I have been using a 6'6" med BPS Carbonlite. Most people will recommend a slower action like a crankbait rod, but i feel the softer action doesn't give a sharp enough action therefore I like the faster action. I have also found that lighter FC line will free up the action quite a bit. I have gone to 8 pound test when I can with a perfection loop versus a palomar or other tight fitting knot.

I throw them on a Cara Weightless Worm rod. Think it's 6'7" MH with a Medium flex. It'll handle the smaller Pointers and most of the bigger ones too. Use 10 or 12lb Fluoro and a Revo.
I always liked the medium flex on it cause it wouldn't pull the hooks on one that was barely hooked

Guess I'm the queer in the bunch, I've used it all, but most of the time now I throw them on spinning gear. It's just more comfortable for me to work the bait, the reel is beneath and the angles / hand position just is less tiring. Without looking, the rod I'm currently using is a Powell 6-10 Med Fast, with one of the new Daiwa BG 2000 reels. Use Berkley NanoFil with a short 10# flouro leader. I can throw that rascal however far I want to!

You know years ago I heard Clunn speak on rods. All his except a couple were heavy or med heavy at least 7'. You adjust your line type or reel. The rod companies are genius. If you buy at least one rod for each type lure, depth, line, and technique. You'll need a separate boat to haul them. I really can't remember Clunns logic, it did how ever make sense. If you fear breaking a fish off because your rod is too stiff, back off on the drag. That's what it's there for. If you fish lakes full of cover, whippy rods only frustrate you. I remember several years in the late 70's early 80's, Guido should have won every spring TX on Rayburn. He came to Texas armed with a spinning rod ands tube lure. The only thing that stopped it from happening was those 6-8lb bass wouldn't come out of the flooded willows and buck brush. Thick cover requires strong rods and line.

I have that same Cara that I bought for jerk baits but it seems to flex to much on the larger baits. It's great for a pointer 78 and smaller cranks.
I might try a spinning rod. I only have two and one is strictly for shad raps the other is for shaky heads.
I think a rod that is to stiff would kill the action on a jerk bait but one to flimsy would make it hard to fish as well.
Thanks for the responses.

Waldo, have you ever seen how Pros like Vandam fish a jerkbait? A stiff rod would actually drive it deeper because it doesn't flex. Go to Youtube and watch Kevin fish one.

I can't say that I have and to be honest when I have really been on a jerkbait bite you could have used a snoopy rod and caught them.
I am probably over thinking it as usual.
