I went to Field and Stream yesterday to see if there were any end of season sales. I was looking at Lacross hunting boots and found some I liked. When I took them out of the box to try on I noticed they were a return. Now.... this normally wouldn’t have been a big except they still had mud caked all over the bottoms and sides of the boots. I asked the sales associate about and she offered me a 10% discount. I wasn’t expecting her to give me the boots for free but 10% with mud still caked on them.... I just told her no thanks. Am I over reacting or should they have at least cleaned them up.

I would have taken the 10% off.

If they still smelled new, just hit em with a hose when you get home

I went to Field & Steam in Hoover last week.
I did buy a box of 308 bullets, but that's the only thing in the whole store I could afford.
I guess they court the rich preppy crowd, cause everything I saw was seriously overpriced.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Been there a few times as they carry some different holsters that on Sunday can be hard to get a decent holster for a gun. Yes everything is over priced, cloths, guns and everything are alittle (alot) higher then say Academy.

The placed like that I have around me now is Bass Pro, Academy and use to be Gander Mountain. Field and Stream and Bass Pro is similar in pricing.

I did think about it but I still couldn’t make myself pay $100+ dollars for boots with mud already on them

Sounds like you need to learn to negotiate better. Probably could have got them 50% off if you had asked. Especially if you had relayed to them how you were offended by their actions the way you just did in your post. You might have saved a few dollars if you had told them how they made you feel, we cant help you.

I did get a pair camo pants that was on sale for $20 so I’ll take that as a win.

I’ve had lots of training in negotiations, I’ve got that down lol. I may go back today, hell I probably would have bought them if she would have gave me 25% off.

Should have bought them, used them and then returned them the next week.

If they asked about all the dirt on them, tell them that was the way you bought them.

If i had wanted the boots, i probably would have made them an offer based on what i thought was right considering the situation and gave them a chance to hang themselves. Usually they, whoever they are, will say "oh no, we cant do that, weve got more than that in them". Now they are liars and i consider that strikes one two and three. Another name on the boycott list. My boycott list is getting pretty long these days. Pretty soon i wont be able to do business with anyone.

I going back today and see what I can do. If they are firm on the 10% I’ll pass on them.

Jack Daniels and I managed to melt the soles of my hunting boots. So I went to Dick's (this was before my boycott) to buy another pair. The clerk brought out a pair 10 and and a pair of 10 1/2. I picked the 10 1/2 and the clerk boxed them up and met me at the counter. I went hunting and Texas actually had a snow storm that weekend. Pulled out my new boots and I had two left ones, one size 10 and one sized 10 1/2. Management did give me a 10% discount when I returned them.

So....a store in AL is supposed to be having an end of season sale on deer hunting stuff? Probably not. A smart owner would mark certain things up right now. A whole bunch of the state is just getting into their best hunting.

Update..Ok, Field and Stream just redeemed themselves. I went back and got them at 40% off. They still have mud on them but I can wash that off.

I was hoping you would write back on the out-come. Glad they made it right. I buy some fishing stuff their when I pass through...not the cheapest but I like the guy in the fishing department.
