Has anyone seen this. I just saw it posted on the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division facebook page. Thought some of you may be interested.
What�s a BONUS BUCK?? 🦌➕
A special WMA Bonus Buck Program will be in effect on specific public land: Lauderdale WMA (Jan 6th), William R. Ireland-Cahaba WMA (Jan. 27th), Lowndes WMA (Jan 6th), Barbour WMA (Jan 6th), Geneva State Forest WMA (Feb 10th), and Perdido River WMA (Feb 3rd) ONLY.
On those specific WMAs, hunters will have the opportunity to harvest an additional buck on the specific Bonus Buck day. This additional buck will not count against the three-buck limit. To qualify, hunters must obtain a daily permit from the check station at the participating WMA on the Bonus Buck day. The hunter MUST bring the deer to the check station for WMA personnel to collect data from the buck and validate the animal.

Do you have to pay for the permit? If not, I'm not sure I see the purpose. It only applies to those who have shot their limit of bucks and documented each one(ie. Those that are honest). Why would this be limited to WMAs? Why wouldn't all hunters have this opportunity?

I'm not sure. I don't think you do. I just saw this on their face book page and posted to those individuals who would be interested. I only hunted 1 day this year and killed a small 6 point. I'm done for the year so this doesn't help me out either way.

give them bucks away, esp on public land. We got plenty. I thought we just lowered the buck limit....
Is the hunt open to ONLY those who have already killed and reported three?
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

There are certain management areas you can hunt on certain days and the buck doesn't count toward your limit. I can't remember which ones or the date but I'm sure somebody can find it.

I�m not sure what the reasoning is behind the �bonus buck� and why it�s only on certain WMAs. Cahaba has a bonus buck day on Jan 27th and if you kill a buck on that day it does not count towards your 3 buck limit. I�ll be hunting that day and looking for #4 but he is gonna have to be as good or better than my last buck.

I believe it's anyone. It just doesn't count towards your 3 buck limit.
