I'm gonna be headed up that way next week and was wondering what all do I need to hunt the Talladega National Forest other than a license? And what area is national forest and what area is management area? I plan on hunting the south end somewhere between Talladega and Sylacaug. Are we required to have a map, check in/out and such. I searched the internet for info and can't come up with anything. Thanks

Just state license

state license is all you need for national forest land. you have to pay the wma fee on your license and have a map/permit in posession for state wma land only

Killed many good bucks down below Centreville in the TNF in cutovers during mid-day. Lot's of land down there but you really need a map to find all the tracts. They are bordered in many places with private lands as well as hunting clubs. Not just one big large tract of land. Lot's of deer in PERRY county and Dallas county......

Well the part around Centerville would be ideal being my camp is in Dallas county. Like I said I really couldn't find much info on it and what I did didn't have anything about that area just talladega county. I know there is WMA in them just don't know the boundaries. So the part up around Centerville is NF?

Go to GOOGLE MAPS and if you look down HWY 219 SOUTH out of Centreville the TNF is in green on both sides of the road. But as I said, there is alot of private land around there. The green part out HWY 82 towards Tuscaloosa is where Oakmulgee WMA is. I have always hunted down HWY 219. Lots of land and maps are available but I can't recall where. You might try here and find the map you need. Lots of dirt roads that cut thru the forest and it is pretty well marked. TNF land is marked by signs and RED markings on trees. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/alabama/maps-pubs/?cid=stelprdb5155057

Do NOT click where it says to order, click here!
Look below the pictures for free maps.
These maps shows the NT land and any private property inside it as well.

NP//I found those by accident a few years ago.
I would suggest if you're gonna hunt there a lot, is to get the BIG map.

I had the TNF one years ago, about $10 on top of Cheaha Mtn. Very detailed map and tons better than these free ones.

Matter of fact, I had marked the location of where I saw the biggest racked deer in my life, and now I can't find the map or remember where I was lmao This was back in the late 80's early 90's.. Man I wish I could find that...

To Build on CVAwolf, I have also hunted along Hwy219, you really need a good map, most of the area is private, but do have pockets of public land. I spent 4 days in a truck trying to find places to hunt in Perry Co. 10 years ago. I hunt that area every year. I have some good spots in Perry and Chilton County on the NF. You really have to put the effort in and go deep!!!

We have come down early Jan. and Late Jan. Seems we have better luck on NF early Jan.
