Hate to hear that. The main reason I got into real estate was because I knew I'd never fire myself and I'd never have to ask for a raise. There's a lot of freedom in it and the market is good right now. Most people that get into it have ZERO sales experience or sales skills and that's why they fail. You'd be way ahead of the ball curve. I was the top sales rep at a locally owned pest control company in Tuscaloosa just a couple years ago and I sold 59 houses this year. I'd bet you could have similar success or even more... Good luck to you, let me know if I can help any way

I'm not in tool sales, but started out with a sales territory that didn't produce anything. It all started with picking up the phone. I know it may be frustrating on your end, but a salesguy has no idea who else is calling you. Their only goal is to put food on the table.

What's crazy is the % of customer you will call 30 days after you called them originally and sent an email to say " I wish you would've called me last week. I just bought xxxx".

This guy must not be working and relying on your account for 80%-100% of his quota. This would run his ass out of town if it was my customers.

If one of the salesmen that call on us called me 4 times every day, I'd be really pissed. I text all our vendors when I order. I talk to 10-20 customers a day. That gets all my talking out.

Yeah, I get that, so I try not to be rude until they become annoying about it. I don't mind emails so much, because I can check them at my own convenience when I have time to do so. Most times I send a P.O. via email anyway. It's the phone calls and hearing "John, there's some salesman here to see you". when I wasn't expecting one.

I get that sales guys probably have to be in touch.

But I think it's incredibly sad that so many folks cannot take a true vacation anymore and unplug completely.

You have to work your ass off double-time before you go to get things scheduled or prepped, or hope whoever is covering for you isn't a moron. And then when you get back you have to wade through piles of chit, things that were missed if someone else was helping, spam and crap, and then try to catch up.

A lot of companies do layoffs before Christmas that way they can get around having to pay year-end bonus.

Yes, that would absolutely suck. I hope there was some kind of severance package at least.

That would agravate the he'll out of me! I think they should respect your time and not show up without an appointment. I've done that a couple of time, and never did it again. I think it's rude, and wouldn't like people doing it to me. He'll... I hate people coming to talk to me while I'm in the office, and I work with them!

That's a very poor way to do business as a salesman. A good portion of my customers I consider friends and we occasionally do things after work (hunt, fish, etc). Then I have a couple guys that I really enjoy seeing because they are extremely intelligent in the areas/products I rep. It's nothing for me to show up on "project days" and help them turn wrenches. Those days I'm not a salesman but a helper. It's a HUGE benefit to me me because I get to learn hands on vs sitting in a training class.

And I buy a mean lunch, lol.
