Pulled the trigger on a new GMC last night. My 06 Chevy was a good truck and would have run longer but I drive a lot every day so it was time. I had that truck a long time so it was tough letting it go. Isn�t it crazy how attached we get to inanimate objects? Obviously it�s the memories attached to it. It was the first truck I bought with my own money. I found it online back in 2008 in TN so me and dad got up one morning early, stopped at McDonald�s on south parkway in Huntsville and pigged out on pancakes. Then we drove up to TN and brought it home. I had saved up a lot moving furniture at Two Men and a Truck but was about $8k short so had planned to finance it and pay it off in 12 months. I was about to graduate from UA and dad said he didn�t want me starting out in debt and since I had worked so hard in school his graduation present to me was enough to cover the difference. So, partly with my own money. The first time I met my wife was in that truck. We had a mutual friend that introduced us on a blind date. I drove so the first conversation we had was in it. I took my lab, Chief, home as a puppy with him curled up in the front seat on a towel asleep. I proposed to my wife on Thanksgiving near my parents� house (I did it that day so the whole family would be there) and it was the truck I drove us back to my parents� house in. It was the truck I drove over to the Dr�s office the day we found out my dad had cancer. Obviously not a good memory but I drove it over to the same office the day we found out he was in complete remission. The list goes on...it was a good truck. On another note, this new one is sweet.

I got an 04 crew z71. About to click 280k. I've had it for about 5 years now and I hope it lasts another 100k. I love it and don't want to see it go.

I'm seriously considering doing the same thing. My 06 duramax is starting to Nickel and dime me to death. Same for me. I had 2 rusted rocker panels, a bad fuel sensor that it near impossible to get to, the a/c was starting to act up, etc. I�ll be honest, that 06 is hands down the best truck I have ever owned. It didn�t use oil at all. I about pulled my hair out at 130k when every sensor on the truck started going but other than those sensors, the only hardware I replaced was the driver side bearing and CV axle. It was definitely the easiest truck I�ve ever taken care of. The stuff that was starting to go wrong was just piling up so I decided to get what I could out of it and move on. With that sensor and the rocker panels it was easily $2k in stuff that needed fixed. I have been looking at trucks with the intention to buy something soon, I just didn�t go to the dealer last night with the intention to drive off in one. But, he gave me a good price for my truck and I was able to get him down more on the truck than I dreamed I would. Then I was able to put enough down to where I�ll have it paid off in a year. I couldn�t pass that up. I would have loved to keep my truck longer but like you said its starting to nickel and dime me to death. I just don't have time right now to have to constantly be fixing something.

I bought an 17 gmc a few months back. I need to get her out and drive it. It sure is pretty and has more buttons than I can figure out what they do

Why not hang on to it,for hunting purposes or just a spare vehicle.

Why not hang on to it,for hunting purposes or just a spare vehicle. Considered it. I got a lot more out of it than I had been offered selling. Between it and how much I put down I�ll have it paid off pretty quick. I don�t like having to borrow money and when I do I get rid of the debt as quick as I can so it made sense. And like i said, the time factor. I�m working a lot and in school full time. Just don�t have the time and energy to keep it going for every little thing on it.

Hey, I hope I can do what you just did, that's buy a new truck. I have an '06 Z71 with 230K miles and it is on it's last leg. Lifters clicking very badly. But it has been a great truck. Drove it off the lot with 300 miles on it.
Congrats on your new purchase, and enjoyed the story.
