Sitting on the porch at the clubhouse drinking a cup of coffee petting the dog. Slept in this morning and figured I'd try a middle of the day sit. Got a lot of pictures of deer feeding around lunchtime. Anyone else ever tried getting in the stand mid morning and hunting the middle of the day with any luck?

I've always hunted mid day during full moon times. I've killed more big bucks mid day than evenings.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

get close to the downwind side of where you think they may be bedding. A high stand on the downwind side of a clear cut is killer.

That's exactly where I am. I didn't really plan it that way I just thought it would be a good place to hunt. Down wind of a cutover with some hardwoods to my back.

Ive Done it alot more in the last few years and have to say Ive seen more Bucks getting in the woods around 8am and hunting until 1pm. It seems it works best for me on heavy frost mornings.

A lot of times a buck will get up, turn around or walk a few feet and lay back down. Get on em quick.

I'm determined to make myself sit all day much more often this deer season, especially on public land hunts.

Update: had a spotted fawn come through, with no mamma in tow. Some jerk probably popped her the first weekend o the season. Pretty unethical

Deer don't wear watches. When the big bucks are on their feet during the rut, be in the woods.

I was in a club several years back, and we had a guy that always chose to sleep in. He would head out to the woods at 9ish in the morning. He would see, and kill more deer than the rest of us. His philosophy was, while we pattern deer movement, deer pattern our movement. Most of all the hunters were out of the woods by 10 am, he saw most of his deer after 10 am.

thumbup If I hunted around a lot of people , I'd use this strategy often.

I never see deer past 10. We have a low deer population, but I really don't think I've ever seen a deer past 10. I see most deer around 8

I have made myself do it a few times its just hard for me to want to wait. I like the sun rises and have seen many deer at first light. I just think I'm gonna miss something. I like to try and sit until lunch, I just don't do it as much as I'd like.

i used this theory in a club I was years ago and it paid off. I'd be in the stand about an hr before they came out of the woods. Sometimes five minutes after they drove out I was seeing deer.
